Thread: Stage 3+ Tiguan build

It's running nicely. We ran into a spring rate / diameter issue on the first track day (rear) as we run a spring over shock combo. New springs arrived yesterday. It managed to lower itself about 20mm after being pushed "hard". So more work to be done there. Our new large front sway bar makes it corner flat & neutral.

Needless to say, it finished in front of 13 Porsche's at a recent timed track event . And we were on street tyres. The cars in front were a radical, 997 GT3RS, 964 race car & a 996 turbo targa car.

Its on track - balance was good, braking great, turn in good. Launch great.

    Autocross - Lakeside - 01/02/2014 - Porsche Club Queensland

It's amazing what the track shows up in a few short laps, that thousands of miles on the street won't show!

Nice work Guy. I bet the Porsche guys were happy about getting beaten by a $40k SUV....not.

I'm sure they looked at it a little different after the event than before. I guess they are getting used to you bringing out some fast VWs to their events though.

So what are you planning for it's next outing? Will you be putting on some racing slicks and going for a podium finish???

    So jealous of the recaro's!!!!!!!!!!
The wheels don't look like they sit as far out as they did in the workshop photos, maybe the lowering cambered the tops in more.

I think it's the massively flared arch extensions that have been added that make the wheels sit so in-board.

Just waiting for some 18x10 rims and 285/295 rubber to be fitted...

Good thing is our VWR Scirocco rims (18"s x 9"s) fit on nicely, so they will be the "track tyre". With a car that is lowered like ours, the rear steel wheel arch becomes the hurdle & will cut the tyre up, so it will never look super fat to get it to go around corners like it does.

As predicted, it has way better turn in than our Golf R, but you have to keep the weight transfer in check with solid front sway bars (heavy resistance), and the rear follows nicely.

And yes, opened a few eyes again with the Porsche boys. Launch control at 4k rpm is awesome!

OK - Motor Magazine last week tested the Super Tiguan against a field of 23 tuner cars at Sydney Motorsport park.

The car was modified for the event (control fuel / unable to touch the vehicle during the event including checking tyre pressures / oil levels etc).

Pro drivers Warren Luff, Darren Morgan & Jack Monkhouse had to individually test each vehicle on the circuit & drag strip.

How did we fare? - Good to go head to head against modified Golf R's (including one of our own customers production stage 3 Golf R), modified A45's, Supercharged M3's & M5's, Lotus's (Loti?), some BIG horsepower HSV's and some monster SUV's. And also against an Aventador & a 458 Ferrari?

Results - locked down until the August edition of Motor is for sale in about 7 weeks time.

Top secret... You'll have to buy the mag on the 10th of July when it comes out.

And then if it's anything like last year the results will be spread out over a few issues.
