Hi Guy,
I've already got an 'old' stage 1 tune from you guys.
My car was delivered 1st Qtr 2012... is the new tune for this model?
I'm comparing the charts and there is obviously something very different happening at the bottom end. Can you comment on that? Is it just that you can't collect data accurately below 2k rpm? Or is the tune very different?
Is it worth upgrading, not just for the numbers but more importantly for engine management or power delivery reasons?
And whats the deal, logistically and financially?
Mine had to be bench tuned, will that still be the case?
Thanks again.
Eventually all the "old" tunes will be updated to the new calibration. But give it a little time, end of Jan - Beginning of February.
You can't start a dyno run below ~ 1700rpm as they are in 5th gear on a DQ200 (with stock software on the DSG), but essentially there is no real difference below 2000rpm on the supercharger.
Up to you on of you change or not, we have hundreds & hundreds of people happy with the "old" calibration. The new one makes more power & torque.
Logistically - you have to book with your APR dealer & check if the file is updated.
Financially? - You have to pay the dealers labour rate to do it (expect at least 1 hours labour).
Bench tuned? - Most have been converted to OBD port tuning now.
It's been about a week now with this tune on the Beetle, and it's been fantastic. The Beetle is one of the de-tuned stock 1.4s compared to the Polo GTI or Fabia RS, so the gains are bigger compared to the standard engine setup and thus I assume more noticeable than those sportier cars.
The 158kW feels just about right for the car - it doesn't trouble the (non-switchable) traction control too much but you can definitely feel the gains when accelerating, particularly up hills or overtaking from 80/100kph. I haven't put the Performance Box into the car yet but there'd have to be at least a second shaved of the 0-100kph sprint.
