Thread: New Project - MK7 GTI

    New Project - MK7 GTI

Long awaited - it's finally here. This is probably the best GTI since the revolutionary MK5 hit our shores in late 2004.

We already have Brakes / Springs / Wheel / Swaybar upgrades on the shelf, and have been working on our MK7 TDI for almost 7 months now.

APR - High Performance Development for Audi, VW and Porsche Vehicles.

Anyway, a couple of pics of the new ride - I'm looking forward to going for a blast this weekend!

Interesting on your comment regarding the mk7 GTI being so far ahead of the mk6. What are your specific thoughts? Coming from the mk6, the 40 min drive I had I the mk7 displayed more similarities than advances over my mk6 GTi

me too! in 110km/h zone with bumper to bumper traffic, then 60km/h zone in peak hour

both have 4 wheels, an engine, a gearbox, how could the mk7 GTI be so far ahead

Had a good drive over the past two days.

Chassis - big improvement, weight balance, feels like much less weight over the front wheels. Damping - much more refined & better matched. Body stiffness - this goes a long way to the suspension feel. Tip it into a big roundabout at the legal road speed & there is less tip - keeps the inside rear wheel in contact with the ground. The flat bushes in the rear of the control arms don't move around like the factory MK6 ones, so maybe this helps in the front end.

Certainly in the front end, there must be several KG's of unsprung weight removed - in the control arms & hub carriers, this would contribute to the feel.

There is obviously a big host of small changes that make the difference.

Continental tyres grip well - BUT they are noisy as hell.

Electronics - makes the MK6 feel like it needs a 5 1/2" floppy disk to make it run :', the speed of startup of the can system is worlds ahead & the integration doesnt feel like a bunch of add ons any more.

New seats are good - seems like I'm sitting higher (like the seat doesn't go as low as in the MK6 GTI) or maybe it's the steering wheel won't come up as far.
