Just a question.., if i took the DSG upgrade and found that it didnt solve the problems, can you switch it back no questions asked? I ask only becuase i get the feeling that whilst the shudder in 2nd gear is gone, there is a "lag" now between 1st and 2nd and now 1st gear has a shudder on take up. I suspect my problem may be mechanical.

Honestly i am reading all these 118 upgrades with envy as i am a bit suspiicious about the long term reliability of my specific vehicle.

The 1st to 2nd gear now feels like the 2nd clutch doesn't "take" straeight away... Thus negating the benefit of the DSG which was instantaneous shifts.

Still very happy with my upgrade, but noticed today with warmer weather and some passengers I often felt like I was in too high a gear again (by only a few hundred revs). Is it worth considering increasing the minimum revs from 1400rpm to something like 1800?

cktsi - unfortunately we don't offer a trial or money back on this product, for the exact reason you describe - it sounds like you have a hardware problem which software will not fix. We will not apply software to a vehicle that has suspect hardware - get it fixed first, then you will love the DSG software upgrade.

Ryan, the mech still makes it decisions (shifting) based on load (and throttle position) so it will vary according to the conditions!

Good to hear but that's not what I felt yesterday, was more reminiscent of the old factory software with APR Stage 1. Had to use the paddles or Sport mode quite a few times on the trip home yesterday. (Was 23 degrees and had one 'solid' passenger)

    Thanks Guy.

Another question I have... I've seen aftermarket clutches for the DQ250. Are there aftermarket clutch packs for the DQ200? I've gone 2 rounds of clutch replacements and am getting quite disappointed.

No Aftermarket clutches for the DQ200 - its a mega complex piece that is riveted together (and takes hours of machining to pull apart) - we have had one dismantled & the friction section checked (by the manufacturer of the friction plates!) and they rate the friction side to a margin of over 40% holding capacity of where they are rated - that's the friction side only, not the clamping. The "new" versions seem to have more clamping tension & a stronger housing as well.

I can't foresee anyone making this unit aftermarket.

    Hello Guy,

First of all I have to say that I am uber impressed with the clarity of your responses and descriptions in this thread so far. Great work, alot of other vendors (not necessarily those on here) could learn a bit about doing business online and specifically on forums just by having a read through your posts.

Anyway, a question if I could pick your mind for a moment.

I have a late 07 MY08 GTI with 56k km. VW have informed me that it has the most up-to-date software platform loaded for my VIN number. I am pretty positive there's no existing hardware issues but sometimes it does make mincemeat of a gear change in manual mode or D (never in Sport it seems) particularly when changing from a relaxed/economical driving style to a more frisky drive. Typically these bad changes occur between 1st to 2nd and 2nd to 3rd with more aggressive movements of the accelerator pedal and they can be especially bad if you happen to lift off a little bit from the accelerator as you change into the next gear (such as a fast gear run out in 1st, and then back off slightly as you go into 2nd but not to slow back down but rather to just slow your irresponsible acceleration rate).

My gut feeling is that this is a software programming anomaly rather than a hardware fault - does your DSG tune go about resolving things like this?

And finally, I am aware it is aimed at vehicles with increased power output already but for someone with a stock engine tune do you reckon it might cause more gear change glitches unless I also go for an APR Stage 1 tune to compliment?

Everything else mentioned so far excites me greatly as really don't think VW got the balance between D and S right with this model, the take off in S and gearchanges are always Spot on but D is generally too mushy particularly after being in traffic and city driving. The amount of clutch slipping also irritates me, if the exhaust was louder it would almost sound like i was riding it all the time.

Thanks in advance for answering my query, hopefully it helps someone else as well.

Do you have anything for the R36 Guy?
6speed DSG, but I'm not sure if it differs significantly from the other boxes listed.

Hey Tinto, we have done a few R36's - its a DQ250, so all the standard options from that model apply!
