Thread: Harding Performance DSG Software & Hardware program

  1. #21

Very interested to try out the DQ200 after the clutch replacement on my 118TSI... not planning to tune the engine anyway but the DSG is really dumb at slow speed.

Probably best to wait a few weeks before tuning to see if the mechatronics also needs replacing.

Here are my thoughts from an email I sent to a mate today (Golf R stage2+ done last Friday):

Dsg tune is ok, D changed a bit so it doesn’t change so early and the initial lag is pretty much gone as well which is nice. The thing I'm not sold on yet is S mode now as it's a bit too tame, only shifts a bit later than D. That being said it is now completely drivable in sport and you still get the nice rev kick on downshifts and the faster upshifts so I guess that’s ok, I just reckon if you want to push it hard now then you definitely have to use manual mode and it doesn’t hold the gears in the powerband enough in S...probably a good thing though as the auto modes are never going to be as good as manual shifting in terms of choosing the right gear through corners etc.

Nice feedback, pros and cons were pretty much as I expected from Guy's description. I'm in manual mode most of the time, but on the odd occasion when you want to keep up with a faster car on country roads, or overtake someone as quickly as possible on single-lane roads, Sport mode is the perfect choice (although for overtaking I could use the kickdown switch)

Great feedback, those changes are exactly what I'm chasing...I will fear roundabouts no more! I'm booked in to have the DQ200 upgrade at Guy's Coorparoo HQ on Friday 7 September. I'll be sure to post my impressions

Here are my thoughts after doing 300km trip to Brisbane and back today.(Jetta TDI Oettinger tune)

In D mode the gear changers are faster and smoother. Especially smooth downshifting coming to a stop! I'm very happy with that! It also holds gears now and uses the torque of the engine instead of downshifting under light acceleration. I've also noticed on flat roads accelerating gently to 100km it changes into top at 70km/h instead of 80km/h which could help with fuel economy.

S mode is heaps better than what it use to be. It actually changes gear before the the redline. But it still keeps the revs in the higher rev range if you want to drive sprinted. But this is my diesel family car and I don't think my wife has ever used S mode! Lol.

One of the main reasons I wanted the upgrade was for the higher clamping pressure for the clutches to stop slippage and prolong the life of the clutches.

There was one thing I was hopping it would improve, was lag on take off. No real noticeable change. James did tell me it wouldn't change much as the lag on take off is the nature of the TDI and DSG.

Overall I'm happy with the upgrade and it has done everything that it was advertised to do. The big test though is when the Wife drives it tomorrow! See if she can notice any changes.

Well the Wife had to nip up to the shops just before.

This is her feedback, car has smoother gear change, faster and better take off from stand still. Lol

    Money well spent then!
