For the small amount they cost, I'll take that risk.

If iOS7 does enforce this in the release (rather than the Dev version), the iPod connection on the DNS could be rendered useless and you'd have to connect over 'normal' USB. I don't know if this will have am impact on functionality or not (I doubt it but seeing as there a discrete IPod cable rather than a second USB port, who knows).

Anyway, from what I've seen so far of iOS7, I'm not sure I'd install it.

Winamp for example just plays mp3s one after another with no gap and I don't have to use any sort of settings to do this. On an old hardware mp3 player I had, before iPods were invented, it played seamlessly too. I've never had to tag files as gapless in the past and I don't use iTunes for any of my music now. I stay away from that like the plague. In my current setup I do not use an iPhone/iPod, it is all stored on a large USB drive.

This is all achievable in software, so I hope that the boys in China can add this function if it doesn't already exist.
True, but LAME supports gapless metadata (all lossless codecs do, but only a handful of lossy codecs do, LAME being the main MP3 codec that does), so if the music playback system can read the gapless tags then it should be gapless. Guess that's something for Audiosources/Sandy to tell us, though.

True, I mean if they cost less than $10 (haven't actually looked, but yea), then why not.

iOS 7 warns about non-certified Lightning cables, though doesn’t block them | 9to5Mac

They can detect it, so who knows if they will decide to blacklist them or not.

It wouldn't render the iPod connection on the DNS useless, it's third party lightning adapters/connectors (so anything that Apple hasn't signed off on, isn't part of the Madefori system and doesn't have the auth chip), not on the 30pin adapters. You won't see many third party products with only a lightning connector for quite a while, I'm guessing most manufacturers will opt for 30pin, since that maintains compatibility, whilst giving newgen users the option of using an adapter, winwin for everyone. Anything with a 30pin cable and a genuine adapter will work perfectly, since the auth chip is in the adapter and wasn't part of the 30pin protocol.

Also, lastly, can an external mic be connected to the unit? I was hoping to buy a high quality mic and locate it nearer to me for better reception.

    Many thanks

It will play music automatically as far as I am aware, I had a previous customer for the ANS unit make this comment, though I don't use BT stream myself. However, it will have some dependency on your phone too - if the music player is not running in the background, and the phone software is not designed so that it will start automatically when accessories are connected, then nothing will be able to make it play until you open the music player.

There is no external mic option unfortunately. However the mic quality is decent, nothing special but even with the ANS I didn't have anyone complaining about not being able to hear their voice clearly. It'll just sound like you're on speaker.

I don't believe the unit natively supports gapless playback at the moment. I have enough influence to probably convince them to add it, but either that will delay the release date further or they will commit to add it later. I tend to think the latter option is better, as long as it doesn't get buried / forgotten.

That problem has already been solved, whether they decide to blacklist or not:

Accessory vendor bypasses iOS 7 Lightning check

Honestly, for as long as Apple will be greedy bastards, they will continue to have their intellectual property violated, and customers would only be more than happy to participate. It makes for a strangely satisfying kind of justice.

Well it looks like even the sales staff were expecting the release to be this week. The manager was interstate for business today and I couldn't reach him even with several calls. So I regret to say that I won't have any concrete information until he returns, which should be tomorrow I believe. Not that the information I received before turned out to be concrete, but at least I think I've contributed enough to Audiosources for them to not want me too angry.

Regarding LSQStar.. I've had dealings with a few other people who came to me for support after receiving none from them. They purchase the unit from Audiosources just like any other distributor, except they are still in China and just specialise in export and also stock units from other companies. Beyond the supplied specifications of the unit they know next to nothing about the products they sell and you can expect them to ignore all further communications after a sale is completed. Audiosources is currently not happy with them either and, at the very least initially, will not be selling the DNS units to them, or so I've been told.

If you are going to buy direct, avoid LSQStar like the plague. Get it direct from Audiosources. Although I should clarify, I am supposed to be the sole distributor for the DNS series for Australia. I have some international customers too, and I don't mind at all if they want to buy direct, although now that Audiosources is geared more towards distributors the price will be similar because they're not willing to undercut potential distributors. I would really prefer to see Audiosources products, especially the DNS series, get knowledgeable local distributors around the world and get the exposure they deserve. If you're overseas, seriously consider convincing someone to distribute these units because it's an excellent opportunity for anyone who is willing to snatch it up.

Of course, before that happens it would be good to see the actual software etc. Very soon now I hope!
