Prob a silly question but as there's no video yet: does the unit do GPS on head unit whilst file (in particular mp4 vid) playback on attached rear seat screen?

Hey guys, do you think this thing would work for android devices that don't have MHL?
Hands-On: Android 4.0 devices hook up to any HDTV with MHL [video]

Yup, any rear screens connected via the output on the back of the unit will not show the navigation.

Sorry no, that article was also quite clear - such a device converts the MHL signal to standard HDMI so any TV can access it. For a device to output a video signal with MHL, the prerequisite is that it has MHL. Either way, the connection for the DNS mirror function will be via USB, not HDMI.

It seems my question was overlooked. Does the new unit have a built in hard drive?

Pretty sure you'll find it has 2 micro-sd cards. One for GPS maps etc and the other for storage/playback of media files.

Yeah, I realize that but I'm a little partial to the built in drive for some reason. I'm sure the SD card will suffice...

You can always use a USB hard drive. That's what I plan to do.

    Possibly.

Most aftermarket headunits i've used have been limited to reading the FAT32 filesystem, and only up to a 32GB USB stick (in my experience they won't even recognise/provide enough power to a bus powered drive). Not sure if the ANS/DNS are any different?

There will not be any built-in hard drive.

The unit supports up to 64GB flash drive / SD cards.

I have spoken about USB hard drive support a long time ago with the manager, though he expressed doubts regarding its usefulness, and also how taxing it might be for the unit to scan through, for example, a 1TB drive for music files. I myself honestly think 64GB is more than enough in a car environment. At worst you might just keep 2 SD cards, one for music and one for movies. Besides, a built-in hard drive would only make it harder to transfer files and generally be more inflexible.
