Thread: Group Buy / EOI new generation DNS head units (RNS-510 alternative)

  1. #1681

Haven't done the return yet, so far half is being covered from what I was told.

Love that there was a hardware change after we were promised getting final hardware, yet I'm still going to be out shipping costs to get the thing there and waiting for my replacement.

I think that we should all be able to express both positive and negative opinions on this forum without resorting to personal attacks.

And although hotbmwm3's views are a bit extreme, he does raise some valid points.

Sandy do you have a new estimate for when the units will be ready?

I thought I had posted this somewhere in the thread before but maybe I'm wrong - I'm expecting mid to late February at the rate Audiosources is going. As mentioned the remaining issues I want fixed before making the order are as below:

Group Buy / EOI new generation DNS head units (RNS-510 alternative)

I'll try and clarify a few things.

First of all the DNS unit is available now, in its finalised production form. You can confirm directly with Audiosources if you wanted to. I am just holding back the order until the issues I listed are fixed, and these are really pure firmware because we are talking about the actual production unit, not even a test batch that is supposed to have the same hardware. I'm a bit reluctant to do another opt-in batch considering how the first batch turned out though and with these being the only major bugs left I don't see the delay extending any further than February.

That said, I will say again that you are entitled to a full refund at any time before I place the order with Audiosources. While I find the delay embarrassing and do apologise for how things have stretched out, you can pull out of the group buy at any time up to the date of order with Audiosources, without cost.

The only exception to the full refund was when the first batch of units were ordered and shipped. That batch had several issues beyond firmware, such as a faulty resistor and what was thought to be capacitive screen turning out to be resistive. In light of that I have offered a discount for the first batch buyers who were expecting a capacitive screen and notified the rest of the buyers (who are still free to pull out at any time) that the screen will be resistive.

For the return of a faulty first batch unit I am covering return shipping both ways (so no cost) for local Australian buyers, and half of international buyer's shipping cost (replacement shipping from Audiosources is covered by Audiosources). I have to point out at this point that the ACL, despite what some people have said, has always been (including in its prior form as TPA) that the buyer is responsible for returning the goods to the retailer for a faulty product. This is why you can't tell Apple to send a courier to pick up your phone if it's faulty - you return it to the Apple store, whether physically or by post. You certainly are not then entitled to ask Apple to reimburse your driving / shipping costs under the ACL.

I feel that I also need to point out the first batch was entirely on an opt-in basis. I was told that it had identical hardware with the final production unit so the difference is just the production process. I did not know of the issues that it was going to have or it wouldn't have gone ahead - it certainly hasn't helped me that so many people have issues with the first batch of units. I also did not expect this level of involvement from the community at all - if anything the first batch resulted from increasing demand from people just waiting so damned long. But if hotbmwm3 wants to stick to his conspiracy theory that this was all done at the customer's expense to expedite the bugfix process then I suppose he is entitled to his opinion.

So again for those waiting in the group buy, I apologise for the delay but I cannot control the development speed of Audiosources. This is the only reason for the delay and I don't say this to mean that you shouldn't be impatient or shouldn't be disappointed, or even that I shouldn't be embarrassed that this has dragged on so long, but I can honestly say that I have not been misleading in any way throughout the group buy and if you are unhappy with the delays you can still pull out with full refunds at no cost to you.

Can you please post a copy of the ZX Audio express warranty on here so there is a clear policy that stops any confusion.

Given the hardware and software problems to date, and that these are Chinese products, it should also state specifically your policy on shipping costs for the return of faulty goods.

If a money back guarantee for new purchases is valid or not valid should also be made clear.

The warranty length and what is covered and not covered are important.
My website is not yet functional and just directs to this thread.

The warranty is one year standard meaning buyer takes care of return shipping one way. The two year extended warranty takes care of shipping both ways but not for international buyers. Extended warranty does not apply to accessories which all have standard one year warranty. This is all in the first post of the thread.

In light of faulty first batch units I have opted to cover, on goodwill, return shipping for the first batch local buyers, and half of buyer return shipping for first batch international buyers. This is repeated in numerous posts including the one directly above yours. Outside of the first batch units, normal warranty as stated in the first post applies to this group buy.

I've never made any sort of money back guarantee but if anyone legitimately thought the unit came with something and wanted to return it because it didn't, then I would honour the return. I'm not sure why you think I need to make it clear if I offer a money back guarantee - you either offer it or you don't, why would you think one exists if I never said or implied that there is one? Nevertheless I think this is clear enough now.

I believe I have been quite fair and suffice to say that I will be out of pocket for the first batch units. Contrary to what you seem to imply, I'm here to help the buyers, not to get them. I am still holding full payment for many buyers in the group buy right now and if I wanted a quick exit I would have finished up this group buy two months ago and left people at the mercy of their units. I am delaying the group buy to look after the buyers' interests and offering them the option to pull out with all their money at any time they wish. Short of cancelling this entire group buy (and believe me I have thought about it) I don't see what more I am able to do. Right now I am willing to extend patience with Audiosources until about end of February (and again at any point if a buyer loses patience before me they can simply pull out).

So again we internationals get screwed again. Hmmm with how my units been and the slow painful process of getting it to be functional again, I think this is just another slap in the face.

My unit is working maybe 25% if the time now, with the white screen and now the no buttons working, I can't even power cycle the radio with the power button as that isn't even working. Last thing I'm going to do is fork out more money on this unit.

Which was exactly my point about not getting the promised finalized hardware. If I knew there was a chance of a hardware change, I would not have given the go ahead for receiving the unit.

Also, where are my requested accessory cables?

I could organise the replacement unit to come out to you right after Audiosources return on 10 February.

The warranty policy was there in the first post from the beginning. International shipping is anywhere between three to six or seven times the price of local shipping. I do my best but I can't possibly provide 100% local-level service to international buyers. And as you are in the first batch you only pay for half of the return shipping. There is one other person who already has done this and there are no hardware issues with the final release unit.

Please also understand that Audiosource's original proposal for the first batch was back-to-base repair - as it is only this faulty resistor that is causing hardware issues, they were confident that they could replace the resistor and ensure no hardware issues. I had to fight with them to get replacements instead. Think about it in terms of a faulty phone - normally if its an easy repair the manufacturer will ALWAYS repair and not replace the product. So honestly I am doing the best to ensure a fair outcome and I know some things have turned out less than ideal but I think it's pretty far from screwing anyone over.

I understand but honestly if I knew there was going to be a hardware change I would not have organised the first batch so early either.

As I have explained the accessory cables will come in with my main shipment - though if you have a faulty unit, it would make sense to provide them with the new exchange unit.

I understand the frustration levels here, but calm heads prevail. Sandy has been fair, in my mind, thus far. He did pay for half of the return shipping for my faulty unit, and has been prompt on all my communication. I am not thrilled with AS either, but it sounds like Sandy was misled as we were. NOW... with that said. If my replacement production unit arrives in a few weeks with a broken warranty seal, all hell is breaking loose. I really hope I am not disappointed. I know Sandy is working to ensure that we truly receive new units.
