There should be 3 updates. The coloured screen, then the white screen (MPU) then the firmware (MCU).

Oh geez I only did 2. I did the 1st one with the colored screen, then the white screen.

Yeah once the unit boots to the radio screen you put the SD back in and it should initiate an MCU update then reboot

For the BSP update to come up, it is essential that you:

    • start with a blank SD card (format it to make sure)
    • make sure the "UPD" file in the firmware zip is the first file copied to the blank SD card (this is why you must extract this file and this file only, by itself, into the blank SD card before you extract the rest)

If your unit does not boot into the colourful text screen with the firmware SD in the GPS slot, most cases it's because the UPD file is not the first file copied to the SD card.

After the BSP update the MPU update will run itself. After it tells you to reboot the unit, whether the unit reboots itself or not, SWITCH OFF the unit. And then, REMOVE the firmware SD from the GPS slot, and start the unit again. If you do not remove the firmware SD before you start it again, you will end up at the colourful text screen for the BSP update again, and you will have to repeat the process and wait for the MPU update.

If you removed the SD from the GPS slot and started the unit it will simply boot into radio. When you see the radio screen, insert the firmware SD into the GPS slot again. You will get an automated popup menu asking to update the MCU. Choose yes and wait, then the unit will turn itself off when the MCU update is complete. At that point your firmware update is complete, remove the card from the GPS slot (again, do this before you turn on the unit or you will end up at the BSP update screen again), and you can turn on your unit with BSP, MPU and MCU all updated.

For reference, the updated firmware numbers are:

    BSP: MS9.D
    MCU: DNS810.131202_CAN
    MPU: DNS810.A9.20131129

I use the exact same process above to update my firmware every time, so if you don't end up with these versions, go back, read the instructions, and follow them to the letter.
If you refer back to Sandys directions above and follow them to the letter you shouldn't have an issue. I initially did as well but once I followed his instructions EXACTLY it all went fine.

I'm sure I'm not alone in wanting to see an unbiased customer who's been using it for more than a couple of hours run through the features and demonstrate a few of the shortcomings. Enough to know whether they're something that would bother you.

No-one who saw Sandy's videos would've been prepared for the feedback we've seen in here since people have actually started to receive them.

It's time to give it marks out of ten.

I just read over about 30 pages of this thread.. quite interesting really.
can't decide whether to go for:
    DNS810 - Bugs etc
ANS810 - fear of lack of support with the new DNS810
RNS510 - Price & lack of features compared to DNS/ANS810

Price is a big issue, but then peace of mind is too. Was there a post i missed about timing of release for a final DNS810 unit?

    Cheers,
    Cody

If you don't have BT in your car already you'll need to add the factory module which, if you buy the premium one (better features and compatibility with the Bosch-made variety of RNS), will double the cost plus it's a tough install (driver's seat, A pillar and headlining).
    MY08 Mk5 GT Sport - sold
    MY14 Tiguan 118TSI - sold (Mazda3 SP25GT in its place)
MY16 Golf 7R: sold (Caterham Super 7 and Hyundai i30N in its place)

I've got bluetooth in my Golf. With that, what would you say?
