Ok just to clarify, the instructions I posted do work, they update the software in this order: BSP (colour text screen), MPU (white screen with text in the middle), MCU (software menu after unit boots into radio).

For the BSP update to come up, it is essential that you:

    • start with a blank SD card (format it to make sure)
    • make sure the "UPD" file in the firmware zip is the first file copied to the blank SD card (this is why you must extract this file and this file only, by itself, into the blank SD card before you extract the rest)

If your unit does not boot into the colourful text screen with the firmware SD in the GPS slot, most cases it's because the UPD file is not the first file copied to the SD card.

After the BSP update the MPU update will run itself. After it tells you to reboot the unit, whether the unit reboots itself or not, SWITCH OFF the unit. And then, REMOVE the firmware SD from the GPS slot, and start the unit again. If you do not remove the firmware SD before you start it again, you will end up at the colourful text screen for the BSP update again, and you will have to repeat the process and wait for the MPU update.

If you removed the SD from the GPS slot and started the unit it will simply boot into radio. When you see the radio screen, insert the firmware SD into the GPS slot again. You will get an automated popup menu asking to update the MCU. Choose yes and wait, then the unit will turn itself off when the MCU update is complete. At that point your firmware update is complete, remove the card from the GPS slot (again, do this before you turn on the unit or you will end up at the BSP update screen again), and you can turn on your unit with BSP, MPU and MCU all updated.

For reference, the updated firmware numbers are:

    BSP: MS9.D
    MCU: DNS810.131202_CAN
    MPU: DNS810.A9.20131129

I use the exact same process above to update my firmware every time, so if you don't end up with these versions, go back, read the instructions, and follow them to the letter.
Sandy, I apologize for clarifying what I thought would work. I hope you don't mind....however, mine did not automatically update the firmware and I know I followed everything to the "t" (as I have done a few firmware updates before). Either way, mine worked after I did it my wy. Perhaps I did not copy over the MCU file on the first copy???!!!

For some reason I want to believe the white screen of frozen death we North Americans are getting is firmware related so I am parking outside overnight to test each time we get an upgrade.....still got it this morning so Sandy, looking forward to what AS has to say as this is 99% confirmed to be a solder/hardware contract/expand issue.

I do get the touch screen calibration with the cross hairs but I have confirmed my screen is resistive (touch with a pen and works). Given that this may be a feature change AS did, Sandy, can you please confirm with them that Mirror Link (or something similar with full mirror and touch screen control) is still a feature they are offering? I would be willing to bet more than 50% of us buying these for $700+ did so for that feature alone.....to have OEM replica look and software feel with the addition of Android mirroring.....this is a feature not on the market yet and worth the premium (in my opinion). Please advise ASAP.

On a side note, as someone pointed out this calibration should only be required for resistive screens so if you're getting this menu then it does appear the screen is resistive...
This was me, and just with how my screen reacts I can tell its a resistive screen.... to which hasn't been improved with the firmware update, as that's more a hardware issue.

That's what made me wonder If these pre-release units are using screens that aren't going to be used in the final production, thus the white frozen screen of death. Just like how all the accessory cables weren't ready for the initial batch, maybe the screens weren't either.

If the screens being used in the final release of this unit are capacitive, would we be able to get these resistive screened units replaced with the properly advertised screens?

Side note, has anyone else managed to have their radio lock the MFD display on audio only? If so did you manage to get it off that are all?

My MFD has never locked (touch wood). I move the screens on the right side steering wheel controls and it moves screens and never had it locked. However, this reminded me, and I have to check the spreadsheet, when I am on say the speed/info screen and push the down or up on the RIGHT side steering wheel control, it moves the radio stations......it should only do this when I am on the AUDIO section of the MFD...annoying when I want to check my mileage for example, the radio stations change! LOL

Hmm mine never did that in the last firmware, right now its locked onto the audio side, and using the right side toggles does change the stations, and tracks in SD, however holding the down toggle doesn't let me exit back to mfd.... so it hasn't really locked up, as it does cycle with the radio, it just wont let me exit audio mode for whatever reason

I've tried everything to get it off, turned off canbus, pulled radio fuse, factory reset the radio. Think ill have to pull my battery link next.

Does anyone else have an issue where sometimes while the gps is running the unit wont go into any of the other screens? I cant get into anything like BT, SD etc and putting the car in reverse the cam doesnt launch either. The text does fo a funny colour though while its in rev. I did manage to get to the system info page once though and next to Can therw was no firmware number so im guessing theres still an issue with the can module. A reboot (ie. Ign off/on) usually fixes it.

Also what do you have to do ro get the AC info to flash up? I dont get anything. Is it cause I only have rhe lame half height MFD?

Goobz, press the Nav button to go back to whatever screen you were on. Nav button again will bring navigation back up.

Yeah normally that works ok. Its just occasionally it locks up and that stops working. As I mentioned above I did manage to get to the system info page and the Can firmware number is missing so I suspect it has something to do with that. My last update still missed the BSP flash so I will try Sandys instructions again this afternoon after work. The other 2 seemed to flash just fine though. Not sure if this has anything to do with it.

Does anyone else have very poor GPS reception? Mine take a long time to get 4 Satellites and I can't use it for navigation.
Could I have a faulty GPS antenna?

As for placement, I have mine pretty much on top of the dash just under one piece of thin plastic.

Hmmm nope, mine gets reception right away, and my antenna is mounted in the fuse panel by the left front door on my car. Could be badantenna / chip
