No such luck I'm afraid, the manager is also the owner of the business. It was the sales staff that left, pity because I liked the guy and he seemed to give more realistic estimates than the manager even without access to all the info.

Anyway, in the spirit of transparency my tracking number is 2189163130 with DHL - what happens is Audiosources ships their unit to the shipping forwarder in Hong Kong, who then gets DHL to pickup and send out the order. The order left Audiosources on Saturday and should be with DHL today, and should get to me Thursday afternoon or Friday morning. I leave on Friday afternoon so worst case scenario I'm just gonna have to rush through things Friday morning.

After all this time, I've decided not to go through with the Group Buy. I wanted to get my solution sorted sooner than this and so I am going to go in another direction (one that will end up with better integration for my iPhone as well).

DkN, this is not your fault, it is simply a lack of confidence in AudioSources staying true to their word and wanting to get my car sorted out with decent audio and BT functions sooner than January (ironic really considering I paid a deposit in June).

I will PM you for the refund.

I'll continue to watch how this works out.

Maybe you can sort the list on the first page into order of who is going to get there unit first.
Do an 810 list and a 610 list.
That way people can see how far away they are from receiving there unit

Sorry I think there is some confusion, there are less than 30 units that have been ordered as an initial batch and this was offered on an opt-in basis to the group buy some time ago. Of these units about 20 are local Australian orders, these were supposed to ship together a week or two ago, but instead Audiosources has split the shipment so only 10 are arriving in Australia first. So the first 10 people to receive the units are the first 10 out of the 20 initial batch customers to join the group buy. The rest of the initial batch customers will get theirs sent out after I return on 4 December. Everyone else in the group buy is still waiting for final release / full production of the DNS units from Audiosources.

The initial batch units's software is not considered 100% complete (some bugs still lingering), and though hardware is identical (so future software updates will be fully compatible) some components are hand-assembled rather than off the production line since mass production has not yet begun.

For those not in the initial batch, Audiosources's last ETA was before the end of this year but as I mentioned, considering their history I fully expect January to be a possibility.

+1 good point. But then they might just say something stupid like, "well it was your choice to have it rushed".. ahah

they better not lol, I wonder if they would state what was hand made and what wasn't, I'm hoping by hand made is just the process of assembling the units preassembled circuit boards & screen into the metal frame, and not any of the major soldering components. I'd definitely question a extended warranty on the units if that's the case, mind you its likely a little late now that the unit is only hours away from my house & not days / months away

I imagine it would be fairer once the entire group buy has been complete then it will be run, early batch included. I still think personally it's unfair and everyone should get a discount equally.. oh well

If worse comes to worst and you're running out of time, i'm on holidays this week so I can come and pick up mine, might save time on packing one unit... but then again it mean more time waiting for some dude to turn up. Whatever works better for you *shrugs*

My understanding of hand assembled electronics is that it's usually the more complex tasks that are done manually, because they're more expensive to tool machines for. So you'll have all the normal things assembled by machines (so soldering and assembling components on PCBs), and then assembly and some complex solders done by hand (say if you have any right angled points or anything like that). That being said, the guys that work on this stuff are experts, so the end result will be the same. It's just more time consuming, that's all (it takes longer to assembly by hand, but it'd be cheaper to pay someone an extra hour of labor than to spend hundreds of thousands of dollars tooling machines before it's been fully finalised).

Either way, mass production processes are pretty damn cool, but that's me being an engineer :p
