Yes plug and play, no need for coding, and full integration with OPS system. But the older ANS units already did all this. It just still required an adapter cable between the unit and the car's CAN-Bus connector, as well as a FAKRA to DIN adapter for the antenna.

Do i need an adapter cable between the unit and the car's CAN-Bus connector, as well as a FAKRA to DIN adapter for the antenna?

and i know it is just plug and play but how do i mount the gps intenna?
    thanks

    Hi everyone,

Not sure if you've had the same thought as me but sticking a white 30-pin to Lightning adaptor on the iPod cable seems a bit odd. So I contacted a company called Mobile Mafia (who I've bought from before) to see if they could get black ones. It seems they can and they will have limited numbers coming in on Friday this week.

I also asked them for black 1m USB -Lightning cables. They've done that too!

So if you want black bits to reduce the visual impact, check them out.

(I use them because they are local and not DealXtreme).

    Any updates Sandy?

I'm with asa572. I'm happy to run with Sandy's free unit lottery as that's what was on offer when I signed up and paid my deposit. The bottom line is that's it's Sandy's call how he wants to do it. If we don't like it, we have choices to either accept it or shop elsewhere.

After correcting my calculations there really is no difference to me whether it should be a universal discount or a free unit lottery, and I'm happy enough to let everyone vote. Seems pretty clear by this stage that most people prefer the lottery anyway though.

I just spoke to the manager today. He's being vague about the software and tells me he'll give me an answer tomorrow. I'm getting a bad feeling about this, despite me having asked him for an absolute certain release date the last time. From what I've seen of the test software and the delay in giving me an update, I suspect that the software engineers got cocky and only started working on the full music library functions recently (a major function that is still missing from my test software), despite telling me that they already had it figured out.

I guess I should find out tomorrow. Other than the music library update, which will include better control of iPod as well, the other missing function is Android mirroring. I will get whatever information I can tomorrow, but this constant delay and vagueness is getting on my nerves. I don't doubt that Audiosources can deliver (eventually), but when I ask for a confirmed date I mean to get a confirmed date.

I apologise again to those that have been waiting, and I'll see if I can hassle some more benefits out of the manager for this.

Hey Sandy. On the stock rcd510 when playing media tracks via mdi, there is a slight gap between tracks. Doesn't matter if you're listening to separate tracks but I like listening to DJ mix CDs. it's called gapless playback in iTunes. Will the firmware in the Dns units have this feature?

Pretty handy site and their customer service was second to none. Purchased a GS4 battery case.

I'm unsure of what auxiliary inputs are available on these new head units, but I've also purchased a Dock Boss from Cable Jive in the States which will allow any phone with a USB input and a headphone out jack to connect to an Ipod 30pin connector. They also have available a SamDock which is aimed specifically for Samsung phones which allow them to output audio via the USB. For those of you with Iphones I guess this post is pointless.

I can understand the frustration using a white adapter with a black cable, but i'd be weary about using third party adapters. Unless it's authorised by Apple (pretty sure they aren't authorising any 30pin-lightning adapters), then they're reverse engineered and don't have the official auth chip in them, so in a future update apple can block their use (see apple blocking third party usb cables in iOS7, for example).

Cool, thanks for the update Hopefully it gets finalised this week, and if there are any more delays then hopefully Audiosources come to the table with some goodies, especially for those of us who have paid in full for quite a while now

It's my understanding that gapless is a function of your iPhone/iPod. There used to be a dedicated option in iTunes 10 and below, but with iTunes 11 it autodetects gapless albums and writes that into the metadata. As long the files have been tagged as gapless they should play gapless, regardless of the unit (i've had gapless playback working fine via ipods/iphones in my old 2din units).

Probably a bad example using the iTunes gapless function (but you are correct it is a function of the iPhone). When I play mp3s in other software and/or hardware players, they have a function that says to "not leave a gap" or it just doesn't artificially put one in at all, so I don't need to tell it not to.
Winamp for example just plays mp3s one after another with no gap and I don't have to use any sort of settings to do this. On an old hardware mp3 player I had, before iPods were invented, it played seamlessly too. I've never had to tag files as gapless in the past and I don't use iTunes for any of my music now. I stay away from that like the plague. In my current setup I do not use an iPhone/iPod, it is all stored on a large USB drive.

This is all achievable in software, so I hope that the boys in China can add this function if it doesn't already exist.

    Hey DkN,

Still keen to get involved but also still keen to see the video..is this still coming? Will probably buy either way but would be nice to see before.

Also, you kindly answered my question earlier in the threat about bluetooth being controlled from steering controls - thanks.

I do have one last question about the bluetooth, perhaps you might be kind enough to advise:

    Background:
I own a 2011 Touareg with RNS850 and when I get in the car the phone syncs up and begins playing music automatically from where it left it last time.
On the other hand, I have had a 2012 Golf 90tsi for the last 7 months (company supplied vehicle) with factory blutooth (9w7 J version), when I get into the Golf the phone syncs automatically but I have to manually start the music from my phone. *frustrating*

    My question:

Will the DNS units, if playing through bluetooth (last they were switched off) re sync and resume playing music automatically?? (Like the RNS850)

Also, lastly, can an external mic be connected to the unit? I was hoping to buy a high quality mic and locate it nearer to me for better reception.

    Many thanks
    Col
