That's the problem with machine finished wheels. You're up for a decent chunk of change to repair any curb damage as it's quite an involved process.

First you take the tyre off the rim, machine the face, put new clear coat on, remount tyre and off you go. Often you're talking about different places to do each step as not everyone will have a tyre machine, large lathe and paint boot all under the one roof. So you're also paying for labour/freight to take the wheel from one place to the next.
