About 6 months ago we noticed a hum on our right rear wheel on our 2017 Tiguan. At first I thought it was a wheel bearing, but decided to check other issues first, and discovered after rotating the tyres that the noise moved to the front right (where the right rear wheel went). Spoke to two separate tyre places who suspected tyre noise due to an out of shape tyre. We still had a bit of life in the tyres so left it until now when we got new tyres today.
Pick the car up, and the noise is still there! We had a wheel balance today and I can see new wheel weights have been placed on all 4 wheels. The noise is coming from the left rear wheel now, and I suspect it’s the wheel that was on the right front.
So it’s not the tyres. The wheels have been balanced so I’m assuming it’s not a balancing issues but it definitely seems to be wheel related?
What else am I missing?

What tyre pressure are you running? Does the noise change pitch/intensity when you increase or decrease the pressure? Also what brand and model of tyre?

It was really loud on the rear, I thought it was a wheel bearing or something else. Rotated the tyres and found that the noise moved with the wheel, so we figured tyre noise and waited until now to change them. I can't be sure, but when they've changed tyres yesterday, they wheel that was on the front right is now on the back left but I could be wrong.
I can see they balanced the tyres yesterday, but on the noisy rear left, there are only one set of weights on the inside of the wheel. Whereas all the other wheels have inside and outside weights. I know they'll be different, but the wheel being out of balance is the only thing I can think of that would result in a constant hum from one wheel, after tyres have been changed and the wheels have been on one corner. Unless I'm missing something!

The noise started Michelin Primacy 3s and just replaced them with Pirelli Scorpion Verde All Seasons yesterday and still have the noise from 1 wheel/tyre

Haven't checked pressures, will do that today. Tried it back when we first noticed the noise, and adjusted pressures down but it didn't make much difference. Didn't think about it back then, but it makes me think the noise we're still hearing is from the wheel itself, and only thing I can think is wheel balance.

Get a 4 wheel alignment done at a specialist. If rear is toeing out could do that. HAve you hit a big pothole or ran over a kerb lately
Ive got thumping big 255 x20 Pirellis and they are relatively quiet
If they balanced them it doesnt mean ALL have to have weights on inner and outers of the rim Totally depends on what the machine says. Can also change after having a puncture Tyre gets fitted slightly different so weights change position
I wouldnt diagonally swap radials

Haha! My wife doesn't seem too bothered by it, but I can hear it clear as day whenever I get in the car. Took it back to the same place who did the tyres this afternoon and they checked the balance again, and also checked for any signs of buckling. The left rear wheel has a slight buckle which I'm going to get looked at, but keep reading different views on repairing buckled wheels.
I'll start there and see what they say.
