What should I check before accepting delivery?

I’m hoping to take delivery of my Wolfsburg with towbar next week and hoping to get some ideas on what to check before excepting it. Here’s a quick list and questions I’ve come up with:

    - I assume I should go over the car first before filling out the paperwork, what have people’s experiences been with this? I can imagine some dealerships will try and get you to fill out the paperwork before the unveiling?

    - check paint, it has been suggested the clear coat could have been damaged from stink bug treatment??

    - what is the latest version of maps in the car?

    - check their work with the towbar. They told me that they don’t cut the bumper when fitting (I hope so)

    - interior carpet and other blemishes

    - leaks under vehicle

    - panel alignment

    - general functionality of vehicle

cant think of anything else, hopefully others can weigh in on their experiences

Before accepting delivery, pretty much your list is about right. Some people think a car is more important than I do - it’s not the end of my world if everything’s not perfect after all, i’ll be driving it every day and it’ll inevitably suffer wear and tear. Besides, for you this might be a big moment - but the dealers do this many many times per week - they want the process to run smoothly just as much as you do.

If you have any concerns with anything, take a picture and email it to the dealers email address before you leave.

That VIN is yours - no point in delaying the paperwork because of an issue you discover at the inspection - the choice will always be yours to either accept delivery or not, but THAT vehicle will always be yours unless/until a major issue requires replacement of the vehicle (which is a very rare occurrence).
    Cheers

I had a paint chip that someone tried to cover with touch up paint on the passenger door (7 weeks of pain) and ugly glue marks on all four door skirts. Check the paintwork, check it twice.

Make sure the towbar is rated for 200kg towball weight and your stickers match
Check that the tailgate opens automatically when you do the 'kick' action under the rear bar

So picked up the vehicle today and it has the 100kg tow ball sticker, the dealership told me it changed to 100kg around 6 weeks ago. He asked for a reference when I said it should be 200kg. Anyway, I took the car hoping they are wrong and it’s just a sticker change. I hope they haven’t fitted the wrong tow bar.

Do you have a reference to when it changed to 200kg?

Check for any dents, I found one on the passenger door from transport.

Called them up 4 hours later and they were more than happy to schedule in a PDR guy to come fix it.

Need to watch PDR guys... The lazy ones drill through the side of doors for easy access and then just put in a rubber bung over the hole.

My Golf R had a scratch on the front grill, the passenger rear window wouldn't go down and the passenger rear speaker was faulty. So check all the buttons do what they are supposed to do as there's a lot of electronics in these modern cars.
