    Water Pump Leak

The guys at Eurotune have just informed me that the water pump has a visible leak. I knew this was a common issue with the old Tiguan. Anyone else have this issue. God sometimes they make it hard to love VAG cars...

I should add my car has 90,000kms on it and since carrying out the Stage II upgrades and TCU tune I have it serviced 6 monthly.

You have done well for it to last 90,000kms. Yes its still a very very common issue on these engines. I had my waterpump/thermostat replaced 2 weeks ago, and my mechanic told me he had already done 3 that week.

So with it being such a well known issue, is there any accountability from VW?

Is there a revised part perhaps that I should know about and seek replacement with?

If you are out of warranty & modified then id say you have very little chance of having VW come to the party. You can try though.

06L121111M is the most recent revision of the VW waterpump and thermostat combo.

My mechanic told me he had the genuine pumps failing at early as 12 months after being replaced, so he now uses the German made GEBA 11235/1 which he says in his experience is more reliable and he hasn't had any fail since he has been using them: Geba Water Pump 11235/1 - Made in Germany | Run Auto Parts He also gets a 5yr warranty on the GEBA ones vs 2 yr on the VW one.

My son's Polo GTi was over 2 years out of warranty and VW paid a substantial portion of the parts price as a goodwill measure. The dealership also covered a large portion of the labour cost. Our out of pocket was minimal.

History of the particular vehicle will always be considered by VW when looking into a goodwill claim.
    Cheers

does anyone know whats best to use on the waterpump union tube (to oil)... installed a replacement waterpump the other day and thought it was all gravy but after about 15 - 20 mins of letting the car run it leaking like crazy and making some crazy hissing sound like a hose or something has come loose possibly the union is not sitting properly.. had some pressure spraying and steam / water coming from that area... i used a bit of coolant on the o-ring in the union like ive seen on a video / thread somewhere but am seeing sillicone lubricant grease or even sealant is best.
