Warranty work - Courtesy Cars

I had my Tiguan in for service and they did the recall work on the sunroof. They screwed something up though as when I opened the blind, it gathered at the edges each time. They said that they needed to order a replacement and that they'd need the car for 2-3 days to do the repair. So I asked them for a courtesy car, considering it's warranty work, and they told me that there was a fee of $22 per day for courtesy cars.

I couldn't believe it, and argued the point with the guy I was dealing with but he wouldn't budge. He guy was careful with his words, but he made it sound like it was a charge from Volkswagen Australia.

I followed up with Volkswagen Australia, and they seemed a little surprised and told me it was a dealer charge. In any case, when I picked up the car, the fee had been magically waived. No surprises there.

Anyone else come across this? It's ridiculous to expect customers to pay for a courtesy car for warranty work, no matter how you try and spin it.

Totally agree!

My Passat was 9 years old when a dealership broke a door handle and of course I had a courtesy free car until they fixed it.

For the record, I’d say taking the headliner out to install this new fuse for the sunroof LED must be a PITA. They broke the overhead grab handle above the drivers seat and didn’t put the seat belt adjuster back together properly on ours!

So will have to go back for a fourth visit in 6 weeks...

It’s amazing how quickly we get accustomed to freebies like the free courtesy cars. Only few years back there were no free courtesy cars. Not that I would complain about when I don’t have to be worried how to get home if the dealer performs the warranty work.
