VW extended warranty - Tiguan 162TSI

    Hi All,

I’ve just ordered my 162 (due to arrive end of the month). VW have priced a 2 year extended warranty at $2,500.

Interested in everyone’s views as to whether it’s worth it?

    Thanks!

VW extended warranty is worth it (VW has a poor history of reliability) but 2 years is only $1800 so you have room to negotiate

I’ve owned 2 Tiguans over the last 10 years, both tuned, and they have been very reliable, so don’t believe the drivel written by some so-called motoring experts.

Hi Fastmitch! I don’t suppose you’d happen to have a reference for that price so I can use it to negotiate with the dealer? Cheers mate!

It was on the quote from the dealer

You should be able to negotiate to $2k with no issue

I got mine for $2050. The way I look at it - there’s a hell of a lot of tech that can go wrong in the 162 TSI. If I choose to hold my car for > 3 years then I’m covered. If I sell then it will be a differentiator to other secondhand Tig’s - there will b a number coming out of lease in 3/4 years time. Personal experience is it’s easier to sell private after 4 years if you have an extended warranty. Note that it’s an original VW warranty, not after market.

My 14 Golf R warranty expired last Nov 17. The dealership offers an additional 2yrs of which they call a ‘Mechanical Protection plan’, as long as you service with them. Up until now, they required you/I service the vehicle every 6mths/10000kms (after the factory warranty expired), but have now recently changed it to the 12 mths/15000kms as it was under the factory warranty policy. ie/ The 48 & 60 month service charges are capped and priced depending on vehicle types.
