Eco mode certainly is boring mode!

As an update Dealer couldn’t identify a specific fault after an overnight diagnostics but they’ve done something and the unresponsive throttle has dissipated. Will go in for a secondary check in 500kms but for now they’ve resolved it and car is purring and reacting like it should (I know I should have asked for specifics but I was so rushed for time picking it up).

Dealer also advised VW have issued a bulletin on two-feet driving in S2 Tig. If you hit break and accelerator at same time it cuts off throttle leaving car unresponsive for 15-20seconds. Suspect this is what I did...

That has been a known issue for many years but no way does it result in a 15 second delay, more like two or three. I left foot brake autos and I have encountered it quite a few times in three different DSG cars.

Just relaying what they told me. It’s my first dsg so I had taken the dealer’s info as true.

I don't doubt what they are telling you at all but in my experience it is wrong. Go and find an empty road or parking lot and at low speed gently begin accelerating and then apply the brake with your left foot but be careful as most people who do not routinely left foot brake apply too much pressure. then release the brake and continue to apply more throttle. The car will cease to accelerate and it is a bloody annoying feeling! Have a play and see what the time delay is in your car so you know what to expect.

I've always found with DSG gearboxes if your on a slight incline at a set of lights the car will roll back if you slightly let your foot of the brake as it felt like it was in neutral before trying to engage the gear..

It would make sense if you had applied the brake the car might be assuming "neutral" to save on fuel?

I have been testing Eco mode recently to see if I could get my l/km under 12 if I ever wanted to conserve petrol and haven't had an issue.. although have noticed it "coasting" and the engine turning off whilst doing it.. this feels like it happens more often in Eco mode.

Yep have had a play with it whilst I was practicing the park assist in an empty car park lot. Got used to the ‘drive it like a manual’ behavior which is nuanced but manageable.

The experience I had was different though: I was in stop start traffic crossing over hoddle street, I coasted, quickly braked and then needed to quickly accelerate to get into the right hand lane and avoid sitting in the middle of the intersection. Had nothing under the accelerator and pumped it multiple times. Ended up stuck in the middle of the intersection with an unresponsive car. Put it into S mode and got it to respond. The conditions it happened in couldn’t be replicated via dealer diagnostics - they think I braked/accelerated simultaneously but they acknowledged they don’t know.

I’m totally aware of the lag in Eco but this was different.

Anyway, without a definitive error code, we will keep an eye on it and frankly I’m not using Eco mode anymore as it makes the car feel and act like a truck even without the above experience!

    Individual mode ftw

Should add the engine definitely hadn’t shut off in the above situation

I drive my 162 in eco to work each day.
While response is quite slow I have never experienced the no throttle response problem.
    Averaged 7.4 l/100km this morning.
Lots of coasting which really helps.
NO ACC as it accelerates and brakes constantly with varying traffic.
Mostly urban with expressway sitting at 80-100 kmh.

    Ruby Red Rline 162.

It is pointless pumping the throttle, that works or has a chance of working in a carburetted car but in one with fuel injection it does absolutely nothing. What do you mean by driving it like a manual is nuanced but manageable?
