I am a Canadian with a 2018 Audi Q5 - I am following this thread with interest! I have ACC and have used my OBDEleven to enable Active Lane Assist. The only thing I am missing is Traffic Jam Assist! I have combed the net for info, and this is the most active thread on the topic I can find... I have great hope that my Commonwealth friends will crack this nut! I hope the guy scanning the car this week pre-and-post dealer coding will put us one step forward to a solution.

I think some people are expecting way more from the system than what VW intended. My experience is that ACC works 100% as expected. The Tig is my 3rd car that is ACC equipped (VW CC and Merc CLS before) and the ACC in the Tig is the best by far. Adaptive Lane Guidance works as expected. It keeps me in the position it learned. TJA works as expected as long as it can see the lanes. Importantly though I do not take my hands of the wheel for extended periods of time, nor do I expect that level of functionality from the systems in the Tiguan. They are, after all, assistance systems that are meant to assist you while driving, not do the driving for you. It's a Tiguan, not a Tesla...

The videos and information available gave a hands off seamless impression of what it did or would do and not the reality Without proper educational videos and not sales promotion video as the Skoda one appears to be I don't think anyone could draw any other conclusion. You will also notice that real world experience from users is very scarce and just about non existent in any VW car even now. There has been no contributions apart from one from anyone who has used it for some reason, Skoda have had it for some time it should be noted. Without any real time experiences being put out there I don't see how expectations could be anything other than what they were. I expect seamless hands off controls management system in traffic at stop/start speeds, it isn't that so I am no longer interested as a priority but if it happens it happens.

There has been mammoth confusion and unintentional myth and BS created on this matter and ALG/LA because VW never did any proper education on the new generation of cars but they must have realised that owners needed more information, witness the number of videos that have been released in the last few months. Their own literature is misleading as the hand book on my car switches between ALG/LA terminology when it is clearly wrong, I know that now but not initially and this confusion needed sorting out, witness the threads surrounding that.

You are right though, our expectation has altered, what was yours initially?

I know the sales guy who I got the car from didn't know what TJA was, he drove the car before me for 3 months, (yes I bought a ex dem) and I asked if it had it his reply was no (so I don't think the people who should know what it is know), I didn't know I had it really until one day I trusted the brakes to stop me down to zero and I noticed the lane guidence worked (on the display) down to zero, I have to admit I was a little disappointed with it initially, but if you use it as a assistant it's what it is, would I pay for it as a option? Hmm good question, at €600 mentioned no I wouldn't knowing what i know, but my car has it and I do use it in traffic and yes I don't get as frustrated with jams as I do without it (don't need to concentrate as much) but it wouldn't be a deciding factor in buying a car

    my thoughts

It is very curious that there is no educational video on TJA where all the other assist systems have a video. It is almost like VW do not want to put it put there as a selling point. As Jap says the sales staff have not a got a clue but they tend to be nomadic souls who change employers at the drop of a hat chasing money so perhaps it is understandable.

I had no expectations partly because of the lack of available information, as you rightly pointed out. I do make a point of downloading owner's manuals for cars I intend to buy BEFORE buying them, so I knew what the system was supposed to do. I noticed that the feature TJA was meant to provide (ALG below 60km/h) was not present, raised the issue with VWNZ, and they fixed our cars with a software update. Not a bad result.

That is one of them. It is a sales product and glosses over the practicalities and limitations of using TJA very nicely. The Skoda version was to all intents and purposes the same and strangely the owner YT videos are not detailed either or the ones I was able to find weren't.

Reading the owner's manual was to all intents and purpose a waste of time so you didn't get a lot of info there, the manual even confuses ALG/LA and nowhere I can find does it accurately explain TJA and its operation in the Tiguan. We all developed an expectation of what it was supposed to do and if you expected what you got I think you were the only one who knew the 3 second resumption was not removed and the steering limit if 12 seconds was not removed as that is not in the manual or at least what I can find. You also never came back and related that this was the case even though both your cars have been done for quite some time.
