    Towbar load limit for Allspace?

Does anyone have authoritative figures for the towbar load limit (tongue download)?

The MY18 specifications sheet says nothing about it, while online reviews point to it being just 100kg. The MY19 specs however say it's 200kg. I just got an MY18 Tiguan Allspace fitted with a VW towbar, which says 200kg. So I'm guessing the real figure is 200kg, but I wonder why everything related to MY18 that I can find says 100kg.. 🤔

If the tow weight is 2-2.5t,then I can confirm it is 200kgs ball weight.

    The 140tdi is 2.5t/200kgs(my car)

The only car I’m not sure about is the 110tsi fwd model.

I’ve got the same and it’s 200kg. The older models were 100kg before VW upped the limit.

The compliance plate on the towbar will tell you.

Thanks all. The compliance plate on the towbar indeed says 200kg - but other official information on that for MY18 has been hard to come by. Plus reviews such as Volkswagen Tiguan Allspace | Tow Car Awards have said it's just 100kg.

Vw upped the limit in aus to be inline with how almost all other car companies rate towbars in Australia. I don’t know if there is actually any physical difference to the mounting systems vw use overseas though.

The ADR rules on towbars state that the limits of weights are either what the manufacturer states or the TOWBAR manufacturer states

    WHICHEVER IS THE LESSER

Towball weight is the limit specified by the vehicle manufacturer

It looks like the hardware differs. The UK Tiguan accessories brochure for example shows the swiwelling towbar - whereas the one I had installed here most certainly doesn't swiwel anywhere.

I doubt that VW actually make them they buy them in. Most are Westfalia or Bestbars Usually the towball weight is listed in the towing section of the vehicles manual
