In some jurisdictions you can be fined for leaving tongue in when not towing and yes there are attachmennts for chains but as you will only need one due to weight limitations there is a place for it

I'm a creature of habit and always use two chains regardless of what I'm towing.

Genuine VW towbar for me fitted prior to delivery. I want the ease of the 50mm receiver for my bike racks. I always have the tongue in when not using the rack plus it gives a little bit of protection if someone nudges me from behind. The small cut out on the bumper doesn't bother me at all.

Those with the westfalia, where do you attach your chains and are they easily accessible?

Chains should always be attached to the bar thats solidly attached to the car Never to the hitch or in Westfalias case the detachable part.

Brake safe cables should be attached to the car and not the towbar at all.. I know of a van on a Prado that the cast tongue piece snapped and the van ran back down a hill towball chains and all. Those bars were modified after that

So I finally got a hold of a tow bar kit. Does anyone know what the long coding is for VCDS?

The manual shared only shows the instructions for the online tool (ODIS) the dealer would use.

I did it with my old one, which is the micro-CAN UC with USB. Am planning on upgrading though.

Just installed an oem tow bar and after connecting the canbus connector under the dash, the vehicle has disabled all assistance systems.

Anyone had this before? Will programming sort the issue?

You need to toggle some bits using vag com. See post #275.
