Hillbilly, I understand that. But the weight on the ball should only be around 10% total trailer weight (for our common trailers, around 5% for euro designed- what is the difference to achieve this?)
Idiesel, May just be a weirdness of your car, unfortunately. Suspension load, speed, aerodynamics, the weight of the trailer, bushings, etc. annoying I’m sure.

Mamba Ebike to replace Tiguan
Hi All
I am looking to get a towbar installed on my 2018 Allspace 162, however I have read through all the posts in here about tow ball mass and I am still none the wiser on whether the limit is 100kg or 200kg.
I want to tow a camper trailer or a small Jayco caravan (towball mass ~130kg). Haven't purchased the camper yet, just trying to line all the ducks up first. Of course I don't want to buy anything or install a towbar on the Tig if it isn't suitable.
Is is a matter of contacting VWA for clarification?
You would have to approach VW for that figure because between 2018 and now things changed and an Allspace now has a 200kg limit but Im not sure what it was in 2018 which will apply to your vehicle.
It depends on whether VW upped them all to 200kg or left them as they were at the time.
Like Toyota in 1995 had a 2500kg limit on the 80 ser Cruiser and the next year they upped it to 3500kg but refused to uprate the prev year although it was virtually identical.
Reply 89 in this thread is as good as you get but doesnt solve the problem for owners of pre May 2019.
Remember the rule is the limit of the vehicle or the towbar whichever is the LESSER and towball mass is set by the manufacturer.
Should be in your manual really

The tow all weight for the MY18 Allspace is 100kg, this was revised to 200kg for the MY19.5 model, but as far as I am aware, the only thing that actually changed was the sticker on the car and the info in the drivers handbook.
Have you checked your handbook? What does it say?
And again, that info- dgb, is also not absolutely correct.
Oxblood,
My jun18 build (my18.5 or my19?) tdi allspace (to my understanding there wasn’t a my18 allspace) is a 200kg rated (and stickered) model.
Even though your manual thing says 200kg, get the dealer to put in writing what the towbar limit and vehicle limit will be for your car- before ordering.
Vw aus really screwed up and made it convoluted. Not only did the max weight go 100,200(a and b versions),100, it also made changes in ‘b’ version of 200kg, that say you only get 200 if the car is practically empty of people. Gah.

It seems on looking at it closely its to do with rear axle limits but as they dont seem to have changed I really am at a loss.
VW have made it worse by giving limits according to how many passengers you have but say nothing about any luggage or stuff in the rear.
However that will be governed by the GVM and rear axle limits as well

So I got the following reply from VW Australia regarding the towball down weight on the Tiguan Allspace.
Thank you for contacting Volkswagen Group Australia.
Further to your request regarding the download weight on your Tiguan, I have approached our technical department for more information.
The technical department has advised you to refer to the Australian Supplement - to owners manual, as the download weight is specific to how many passengers are in the vehicle.
Should you require any further information or assistance, please do not hesitate to contact us on 1800 607 822.
Did anyone ever come to a conclusion on this? Is this new 200kg download limit applied retroactively to 2017 tiguans? I'm awaiting a reply from VW Australia myself
