I wonder if updated stickers will be made available for those who have the 100kg max rating stickers? Time to call the parts department
Same. I mentioned it in another thread on here a few days ago. I thought you had already replied in that thread- but again, I have a bad memory.
No news from my front.
As a word of warning to all playing along. Don’t rely on vw aus and their dealers for info about vw vehicles- pretty much about anything.
It’s a sad state of affairs when the second biggest purchase in a persons life is left to be its own regulatory organisation. We really need an authority to oversee and more importantly ENFORCE consumer protection and information on the auto industry.
It mostly exists in the consumer goods industry- and the results are fairer.
If you go onto VW site you can dowload the specifications which give the towing limits for however many occupants in the vehicle HOWEVER it doesnt seem to take into account if you have any luggage in the vehicle as well as the passengers which is weird and unhelpful.
Nissan with their graded TBW had a list of weights under certain criteria which was clearly explained and dealt with variations of GVM

I've emailed both the dealer and VW HQ and no response from either
Even sent one direct to spare parts dept with part no. and no response.
So which limits do I use - the car has 100kG towball weight, the supplemental in my owners manual says 200kg and no confirmation from VW Au on this new spec - 100-200kg depending on how many people in the vehicle...whta a sad state of affairs

The email i got from them with the link to the specs brochure said these are the limits but are extremely vague as I said
In a Cruiser they have the limit and as long as you dont exceed the GVm just load it up and go.
Nissan have a limit but also have a sliding scale depending on loads presumably has something to do with rear axle limits. Something which few consider or even know about.

I've been looking at getting a 162TSI Highline Tiguan and need a tow ball weight of 150-160kg and so was keen to work out whether it was 100 or 200kg for the Tiguan. I talked to a VW dealer today and they said they had recently received an email from Volkswagen AU about this and forwarded it on to me. See below:
So seems like 200kg is fine with 2 people in the car and then, in addition, not loading more than 1150kg over the rear axle. I guess this second restriction takes into account 2 people and the rear full of gear but trying to measure that could be tricky!Dear Team Members,
Further to bulletin Tiguan / Allspace downball weight vehicle specification change (Ref no: 182621-17012) regarding the possible discrepancy in the value for the Tiguan and Tiguan Allspace down-ball weight capacity, VGA has received some clarification from the factory of the parameters in which a 200kg downball applies. For Tiguan and Tiguan Allspace vehicles built during and after calendar week 5 2019 the owners supplement will be updated with the following clarification to ensure customers do not exceed the rear axle weight of the vehicle and/or the maximum downball weight.
VGA will be fitting owner’s manual supplements with the above clarification in vehicles built from calendar week 5 2019. Vehicles built before calendar week 5 2019 are still rated to a maximum of 100kg downball until further notification as per bulletin Tiguan / Allspace downball weight vehicle specification change (Ref no: 182621-17012). VGA is actively pursuing clarification from the factory that vehicles built before calendar week 5 2019 will have the same supplement and specification as above. VGA expects to receive this clarification shorty.
For vehicles built from calendar week 5 2019 a new tow bar with a 200kg label can be ordered through you parts department. (Part No. 5NA092136A)
Should you have queries or require further information, please contact the undersigned or your area manager.
Hope this helps others too - I'm still a little unsure....but looking good at the moment!
Thanks for the update. My car is a mid 2018 build, and has a 200kg towbar and various labels on/in the car.
I wonder why this wasn’t addressed in the ‘before 2019 try continue to be 100’- mine has only been 200kg...
