Gday, just chiming in to inform that the dealer installed towball on my MY19 is rated at 200kg. Hope that helps someone.
How things change back in 1976 I bought a V8 Torana Hatchback ,my previous vehicle was a holden HG station wagon ,
With both vehicles I towed a 19ft6in dual wheel viscount caravan , I even had at it weighed at the RTA weigh bridge an it passed
Admittedly it had electric brakes which I used to slow the whole combo down is normal situations and I got plenty of looks when I over took all the fords and Valiants pulling simular vehicles .
Ha the good old Days ,
Can someone please check the user manual and find out what the total payload weight is of the Tiguan? This is important for towing because it takes into account tow ball weight + occupants + plus luggage. So towing capacity of 2500kgs and tow ball weight of 200kg are only part of the equation

IMO Diesel V8 is still the way to go for any serious towing. Much better fuel economy having more torque at low revs with a heavy load. That and If I was going around Australia I’d get a landcruiser due to part availability and service centre familiarity in remote areas.
Saying that, the tig suits my needs and is awesome.
