    Tiguan R edition?

Get excited everyone! News about the Tiguan R is arriving in 2019?

The Tiguan R is supposed to share the same engine and perform as the Golf R.

I think the Tiguan Wolsburg edition with it's black exterior upgrades (black grill, black mirror caps, black roof bars & black rear spoiler) might be close to this? If so then I'm excited!

I’d love it to be true but the rumour mill has been going for a while on this.

A glimmer of hope is the release of the Cupra Ateca, that is basically what id expect of the Tiguan R. Time will tell, I’m giving it another 3-4 months to see if any truth comes to the rumours before I bite the bullet and get a 162

I actually think it’s just a plain “disguise” to test the new Audi drive trains.

VW Group tries not to build cars to compete between different brands in the group. They don’t way to be stealing sales from themselves, they want to be getting the sales from the competition instead.

I’d love for there to be some more “proper” R models. The problem is it pushes the price point even higher and then you really are going into the premium space. Thinking a Tiguan R would go for ~$70k. I think it’s a bit of a stretch.

As said above, it would have to be priced in Audi territory unless they move Audi more upmarket and put the Tiguan there which simply does not make sense.

I’m gonna wait for early 2019 before deciding on my Tiguan purchase. Let’s hope the new Tiguan R comes sooner rather than later!

A performance R won't be in the 2019 line up, you can be sure of that at least.

I suspect if they were going to do it they'd bring one out mid-way through the model life with the mid-life update. This would be a way to boost sales and bring people back to the showrooms. Possibly even a special edition like the ED35 / ED40 for GTI. Maybe we get an ED13 in 2020 given the Tiguan first came out in 2007...

In terms of competing with themselves it’s really not that different to what they do with the Golf R and Audi S3.. Audi is positioned on the premium side. I agree that a 70k Tiguan is probably a stretch so if it did happen it would have to be positioned differently, but in reality what’s the closest Audi equivalent with the R engine? It might be the new Q3 or SQ3 if that happens, the SQ5 is 100k and a different league. I think there is a market for a Tiguan R in that 65k range.. now if only they’d listen to me!

No it wouldn't. It would be perhaps between $70,000-$80000 where as the RSQ3/SQ5 Start at $100,000

$70,000ish for a performance SUV is quite viable and people would buy it. People that need the SUV space/versatility but can't afford/justiify SQ5 pricing.

R version needs to come with the Audi RS3 engine, as it already has the RS3 gearbox.

    345kw@4 wheels E85 stage 2
    315kw@4 wheels 98 stage 2

Then it will be worth 70k +
