Actually I wouldn't see a Tiguan R taking away Audi customers. It would be a model without an equal and this is something difficult for the marketing boffins at VW to comprehend. They don't know the size of the (potential) market so it makes it a riskier development.

Actually I see it working in Australia but maybe not so much in markets overseas. Australia is a bit of a strange market in that sales are skewed in favour of performance models. So the case for a Tiguan R is stronger here than in other markets.... but the likelihood that they would develop a Tiguan R just for Australia is pretty slim.

Pre-dieselgate I think this might have flown but now I'm not so sure that the return on the R&D spend is such a good case. Love to be proven wrong.
