When the Prius first came out my wife got one given to her 'not by choice' as a company car, she hated it and so did I. It was a boring Toyota made worse by the underpowered petrol and electric engines and it looked horrid.
I think you are wrong, the average person does not buy a car for performance in any shape or form, they buy for the convenience of getting from A to B every day and do not as a rule venture very far from home at any time on a regular basis. In other words they are not car enthusiasts so an enthusiast cannot use himself as a yard stick. Just because you don't think it is a good thing does not make it a bad thing for others. In every market demand for EV's has outstripped supply, why should Oz be any different.

I agree, and I can back your point up. I’m in these forums because I was late in the Tesla preorder cycle and my allocated build slot is still 18 months away. Our current car is annoying us, so we need an interim car.

So we bought a Tiguan without even looking at any performance stats or considerations, like at all. We bought it because we saw it on The Block, test drove it, liked it and wanted a reputable manufacturer and warranty. Really nothing else to it for me and my partner.

The only thing we stewed on was whether we went with the Wolfsburg (we did) simply so we wouldn’t have to worry/do research on all the package/extras and decipher what the hell they all gave you. The sales experience to the average Joe is very taxing, and this is an area where at least Tesla shines and what brought me to Tesla in first place - ability to order/configure a car online for me was worth gold.
