Compilation of Turbos compatible with Ea888 Gen 3 engine. This list includes information about cost (USD), inducer/ exducer size, compressor / turbine, no. of blades:

List of compatible GTI EA888 Gen 3 turbos

It would be interesting to see what a Garrett turbo would do on a Gen3, compared to a hybrid IS38. Any takers?

I think you'll find why the IS38 hybrid is attractive is the degree to which it is relatively "plug and play". The amount of extra work required to fit a Garrett or other turbo is likely cost-prohibitive and bang/buck the hybrids are ahead.

Yes exactly why I got this intake. Nice and quiet unlike a number of others that are effectively open pod filters.

The reason I got the intake is that there's limits to the airflow through the stock airbox. Stage 1 or 2 is probably fine with the snowgrate mod, however stage 3 will need an aftermarket intake I'd suggest for maximum gains.

TVS ENGINEERING TCU REVIEW PART 1

So one week into driving with the new TCU tune I thought to give an update, based on driving in D and having completed a launch with LC.

Driving in the burbs, low speed, short trips.
-Driving in D is now enjoyable and perfect, it’s like getting a new gear box. The shifts are smooth and holds the gears longer, and doesn’t continuously upshift to try to get you to 7th gear as quick as possible. When going from 1 to 2, it now holds the revs and enables you to have some available power. It did take me some adjustment, as previously I had to push harder on the accelerator to get moving, where as now I simply tap the accelerator and I feel instant power and the revs holding. It is smart enough to work out to shift to a higher gear when you’ve been gentle on the accelerator and steadily heading towards 3000rpm.

Spirited driving on the freeway, maintaining 100km/h and short bursts
    - My greatest surprise was when I floored it in D joining the freeway from the on ramp. Previously there was a delay and hesitation, before the gearbox dropped down a gear and the power came on. Now, when I floor it in D, there is no hesitation and the car responds immediately, almost like driving in S mode. So there really is the best of both worlds in D and the responsiveness is all regulated by your right foot.
-Gear shifts were pretty good before, but now it feels even more smooth, faster and precise.
-DSG farts have gone slightly quieter, which I expected as the gears are now shifting faster.

Launch control, when you need all battle stations on and the hand of God on your car
-I have increased the launch control RPM from 3500 to 4000. In this mode the car feels more race ready, like a rally car. In terms of take off, there is no hesitation and the boost comes on very strong. So much so that I am getting some GTI style wheel spin and it feels like I am being pulled by Thor’s hammer, before my tyres grip and I take off like I’ve pushed the nitrous button.
-The gears really change quickly in S mode and in a blink of an eye I’ve cracked 100km/h on the Vbox in 4.1s.

    Adjustments
I’ve had TVS make a adjustment to the tune, as I found on the initial tune there was a very slight “clunk” decelerating and downshifting from 2 to 1 gear. The second revision is now perfect, no clunks and certainly none of those stock mechanical DSG sounds.

    Stay tuned
I’ll write a separate review in a few weeks after I’ve had some time to drive in and experience S and M mode.
Does the tvs tune fix the occasional throttle input delay when starting from a standstill or low speed?

Yes, it changes the throttle response, in D you hold gears longer and don’t need to shift up to the highest gear...off the line I don’t experience any delay and driving at low speed is now enjoyable and not dangerous, as you have power available to accelerate faster/manoeuvre in low gears, rather than been releagated to gears 6/7 (fuel economy tune in D). Highly recommended.

Yeah I get a delay even in sport off the line or maybe when slowing and then starting again. Give it throttle and nothing happens for about half a second. Doesn't seem to happen all the time though. Will need to pay closer attention to the conditions. I figured it must be a dsg thing.

There can sometimes be a delay when the gearbox has to change 2 gears - 3rd to 1st for example or 4th to 2nd as these gears are on the same side of the DSG gearbox. The gearbox will have the next gear pre-loaded so it's quick to change but if it has to change multiple gears there can be a delay for the transmission to load the next gear.

For me it's most annoying when you slow down to take a corner, then accelerate again only to find a great big nothing for half a second. It's even worse when you turn and immediately start driving up a hill. Using S is just too jerky on down changes in lower gears for normal driving.

The only way to get reasonable response is to use S (or M). Otherwise you'll have to get some aftermarket DSG software to sort out the shifting.
