The next HP bug would bite and you would simply transfer the stress onto the next weak link. Gearbox, CV’s etc, they were expensive lessons however Japanese cars were a long way behind in comparison to today’s Euro.

With my Tig, once I can get mid to low 4 second 0-100 times and 12 second quarters it will be bottled up. Your always going to lose driveability and reliability the further you push, it’s so bloody easy to fall into the HP bug. Good thing is we can all decide how far to go before your happy......in my experience your never happy lol and always want that bit more. Knowing when to quit is personal. 👍
TVS also supply race clutches and supporting DSG tunes, however probably excessive for my IS38 level power/tq. A good TCU tune should help reduce/remove any OEM dsg drivability issues including unintended clutch wear and clunks, Id actually put the TCU tune on par with the ECU tune in terms of improving the driving experience through cleaner, faster shifts and the dsg being really responsive in D (keeping in a lower gear) rather than shifting to the highest gear for economy.

As an aside, if your goal is low 4s for 0-100 the OEM IS38 will get you there with an APR IS38 98 RON tune. If you want a bit more, a hybrid IS38 is your other option with a custom tune (I think Tigger73 is investigating this option)

That’s really good info mate. I’ve heard the same feedback regarding the TCU tune. Been looking at TVS, they seem like they are ahead of the rest especially in dual clutch tune. Appreciate the feedback, awaiting to how Tigger goes with the Hybrid. Where did you track down your IS38, did you source privately or did APR supply?

TVS definitely are market leaders for DSG tuning. Plenty of great testimonies for people who have done the TCU tune, interestingly they also do ECU tuning, however I haven’t heard anyone in AU getting the ECU tune (yet).

I sourced it second hand IS38 from an S3, it’s a revision H version which addresses the earlier version failure issues. You can source a new one for around $2k. A little while ago INASNT mentioned Peerless Automotive in VIC had two second hand ones for sale. Bang for bucks is the OEM IS38, and there quite a few IS38 GTIs, Tiguan and Skodas around the world which have done this with great results- plenty of off the shelf tunes like APR and Revo and a number of custom tuners like Etuners and Undergound Performance can tune them.

I am also very interested in seeing how Tigger73 goes with the hybrid route.

I haven't heard of any TVS ECU tunes... probably if someone is selling them they are likely rebadged as they're not really well-known brand.

Probably the best bang-for-buck route to head and pretty much most tuners will be able to have a file for these as it's basically a Golf R.

Not that I’m trying to help you be deceptive, but you could negotiate a change of downpipe and tune with the boss...........and whilst you are at it you could do the turbo swap whilst the downpipe is out.

This thread just got taken up a notch....

The Franken Mumster has been resurrected in Mark 2 body now the TTE475 Tiguan....

Looking at some of the TTE turbos on other TSI engines it looks really promising, if you are getting over 500NM consistently from 3000 to 7000 RPM the Tig will take beast mode to the next level.
