That is essentially a high flowed turbo using an original IS38 and milling out both compressor and turbine housing.

For $2400 Euros, that's haram pricing lol. $3.8k excluding shipping, import duties and GST.

I would persoanlly get a GTX2860R Gen 2 to fit into the IS38 housing for much less and have the piece of mind it's a GTX turbos that don't mind being oversped.

I just noticed that, I don’t think that’s bang for bucks compared to a new stock IS38 for about half that price and 70 HP less, however I am interested in seeing how it goes on a Tig.

The REVO Tig with a hybrid IS38 ETR is about that level of HP and does the 100-200 km/h run in around about 9.6s.

I am interested in seeing how Tigger73 goes with this.....we do need people to push the boundaries....and it sounds like an interesting albeit expensive project.

The IS38 is where there's large volume manufacture advantage and the price is reflected in these economies of scale. I could go down this path and for sure bang for buck a stage 2+ IS38 build is where the sweet spot is.

However I think if I did an IS38 I'd always be thinking "what if" so that's why I'm looking to put something a bit bigger on and push the envelope (a bit). I'm still looking to keep it "safe" which is why anything north of 500hp is definitely off the list as otherwise it's engine build time and push 600+... but that's purely fantasty and a recipe for a dog of a daily driver.

So to keep things real (and hopefully reliable) I'm heading for a "safe" stage 3 kit which will bolt on without requiring any customisation (apart from a tune).

I've looked at (along with my tuner) at getting a turbo built locally and realistically it doesn't turn out that much cheaper, is more custom build (with potentially higher fitting costs) and less guarantees in terms of warranty, etc.

I think with any build you're always going to get used to the power level and then want a bit more. For me I'm looking at taking it to a "safe" level with stock motor and then be satisfied with that.

A hybrid IS38 should be able to get you to your goals with a good tuner, and not sacrifice drivability. The modding journey is certainly addictive, however very exciting and rewarding. It would be good to see other types of turbos being explored and used, so I look forward to reading the next phase of your build....

Yes that’s what I’m aiming for is a nice car that’s easy for my wife to drive and something that puts a smile on your dial when you give it some beans.

Time to order some hardware - turbo, intake, intercooler, DP and then wait for it to all arrive....

LOL.. If I did that, I'll probably get a divorce too haha. Already spent about 30k on mods for the R33 Skyline, that includes but not limited to a full balanced and forged motor and about a $5k+ fuel system lol. Fuel pumps and surge tank setup alone is worth an used Corolla lol.

So Tiguan for me stays stock(ish) because I also paid for additional warranty.

I'm not overly sure that a used Corolla is worth all that much!

Corollas are probably more reliable than fuel pumps lol our Corolla that I didn’t service for 3 years was running fine, no probs...I wouldn’t dare do that to the Tig though....

A not so old one? Lol
R33 runs Teflon Speedflow lines front to back, 2x Walbro 450L pumps, 1x Destchwerks DW200 lift pump, twin solid state relays, 60 micron pre filter, 10 micron filter and an Aftermarket Industries SPR400 surge tank.

Stupidity? Yeah.. Sometimes I wished I just bought a 335i BMW instead lol.

    Anyhow, went off topic lol
