IS38 Tig has had the first 15k km service. Clean bill of health from the local independent VW specialist with no check engine lights or codes. Topped up with some Motul oil/fluids and she’s ready to fly again.

I also took the opportunity to fit RS3 (ELDOR) ignition coils and an APR dog bone mount (version 1). I will provide a review in a few weeks after the mount has settled in, no noticeable NVH so far.
So it’s been 2 weeks and 500km since I’ve installed the APR dog bone mount insert (version 1) and the car is perfect! Initially there was some NVH in particular on start up and when stationary, however the more km I drove the more the insert has settled in and there is now no noticeable NVH.

The steering feels much more connected with the car, in that previously it felt light and overly assisted and now it feels firmer and sportier.

The insert has had the most impact on transforming the dsg, which feels much less clunky at low speeds and when going full pelt the shifts feel more direct and in sync with the engine RPM.

In summary, a great bang for bucks mod which makes the car feel far more sporty and improves the dsg connectedness with the rest of the car by reducing lateral movement and flex between the engine/transmission and car body.

I'm guessing you got it from your APR dealer. How much installed?

The dog bone insert is around $100 and the install is relatively quick, under 30min of labour. There are cheaper mounts out there, however the APR insert is made from stainless steel, so is more durable than some of the poly and aluminium mounts out there. Definitely give it a go, it’s an easy mod to reverse, its held in by one bolt and is inserted between the existing rubber subframe bushing. There is also the pendulum mount that can be replaced, I think however it may be a step to far (in terms of sacrificing ride quality) for a non-racing family car.

When does peak torque arrive with the IS38 swap on the tiguan? Is it the same as golf R 1850ish?

Hi, on an APR IS38 Tiguan peak torque starts at around 3300rpm and trails off at 4900rpm. On an APR MK7 Golf R Stage 2 peak torque starts at around 3500rpm and trails off 4900rpm.

I had a few short squirts on the highway today and it is quite the Jekyll and Hyde beast. When Im solo and driving in S or M, I give it a bit of stick and the thing takes off like a rocket with a growling engine/intake and dsg farts. When I’m driving with the family in the car in D with the DSG continuing to change up gears until it finds the most economical gear, it really does feel like an ordinary/unassuming everyday car.

Are you considering an IS38 turbo swap?

I am curious about the IS38 upgrade but not at the expense of low down response as a priority over top end power.

A stock golf r makes 380Nm from only 1850rpm and I could certainly live with that but not 3,000rpm plus. I was hoping torque would arrive as quickly with an IS38 on a tiguan.

I don't understand why the stage 2 APR package ends up this way on the same size turbo? (I assume "stage 2" on the golf r is just a turbo back exhaust, intake mods and tune?) I would have thought torque would arrive at the same rpm range but just get more of it with more boost.

I am curious but want to keep low down response as much as possible.

A stock golf r makes peak torque from just 1850 rpm so was hoping for a similar response from an is38 on a tig.

I don't understand the delay on the APR package with the same turbo. Would have thought you just get more torque but arriving around the same time?
