Ps do we need an intercooler?
Maybe I could run my car on a Dyno with the bigger numbers and see if we are any closer.. otherwise I need to speak to my guy because where I’m getting 50KWs gain (hub dyno) others are getting 100KWs!
How does a 162 kw engine, maybe 130-140kws at wheels (conservative engine number I believe otherwise it would like 120kws at wheels) make 200kws at wheels with air filter and tune? Especially on 2ltr turbo.
GTR or something I get at 70kw increase but not sure how legit the claims are.
APR and Bluefin say they get almost 70kws from a tune alone.. crazy!
If you have 220kws at wheels, legitimately, you be very low 12s quarter mile. Has any one been to the strip yet?
What sort of torque are people making?
I’ll see if I can find out more info about AFRs etc as well.. we are so far apart it’s not funny.

I mean tune filter and IS38
220awkw is not going to see low 12’s, at least not in a Tig it won’t. 240-250 awkw is likely to see 12.5 to 12.8 depending on the variables you would already know about unless your going put it on a treadmill and drop some weight out of it.
I can personally vouch for the APR stage 1 98 octane tune. Its a bloody impressive power up for a small outlay. I have ZERO affiliation with APR, just a paying customer. The stage 1 tune completely transforms the car in every aspect of performance. It’s not even close to how it was, I gained over a second 0-100 and a massive change in driver experience. In all my years of modding I have never seen an ECU tune transform a car like that. For $1000 I have never seen cheaper horsepower in my life, not even laughing gas comes as close. VAG cars are something else, the way they respond to well developed tunes is pretty amazing. I’ve owned a dozen or so performance cars that have all been modded, including 3 x WRX and two STi’s and and further back an RS Turbo, further back some crazy stuff. Nothing I have owned comes close to bang for buck or ease of modification for very few $$$,
This is the first VAG I have owned and they are next level cars for ECU tunes, I wouldn’t have believed it unless I saw it with my own eyes. Go for a spin in an RS3 with a stage 1 tune and you will get the gist of it, 11 sec car every day of the week, absolutely mental. It took us 15 years to build a genuine ten second street car, and tens of thousands, but that was 25 years ago. The leaps and bounds VAG cars have come, particularly the last 4 years is staggering.
Since the stage 1 tune I have added a main carbon intake and stage 2 carbon pipe, turbo muffler delete and cast turbo elbow, it’s incrementally better, but as APR or any other tuner will tell your, stage 1 is the best bang for buck and biggest kw hike you will get out of all stages. It’s the best grand I have spent. I’m seeing similar numbers to you, my tuner has done numerous and all have proved his claims on the Dyno and in car experience. From what I have seen in this forum, no one is pulling it like a 15 year old, every modded Tig on here are all legit with their figures and I know that because I’ve seen the same or very similar from my tuner.
Your car has a lot more in it, a hell of a lot, like 40 odd KW plus without stretching the friendship considering you already have the IS38 and DP. I don’t have stage 2 (yet) but I know I will be seeing around 200awkw upon completion of stage 2. I have seen the same car with stage 2 done that followed the same path. Approx 20kw of power awkw over stage 1 but much more torque through the rev range and a considerable difference in responsiveness, this has also been reported and verified by other members of this forum, a dump pipe in all my previous builds have all seen a marked leap in responsiveness, especially in Subaru’s, the blanking plate most OEM vehicles utilise is massively restrictive, no rocket science there to know your going to get a good gain there.
APR Stage 3 is IS38 fitting and IS38 tune/file, the tune alone is $1300 plus fitting/labour of the turbo. APR recommend a front mount but it’s not a necessity. Stage 3 outputs vary depending on tuner but 30-50kw is around the mark, again reported by guys who have already taken this leap.
Personally I’m glad I have taken the route I have, you get used to HP very quick which no doubt you already know. I was planning to go straight to stage 3 after stage 1 but funds are tight so I will get stage 2 completed before Christmas and then early next year go to stage 3. It’s an impressive little 4 pot the EA888.
An update on my build (should have started my own thread).
I've had the Racingline lower engine mount removed and installed a new OEM mount. I've also removed the custom fabricated pendulum arm based on the Racingline one and gone back to the OEM one.
The polyurethane was never going to soften, that coupled with the pendulum arm was causing so much vibration on idle it was embarrassing. The steering wheel, the bonnet, the dash, everything was vibrating. Watching the headlights dance up and down on the rear of the car in front at a set of lights was a horrible sight.
The only thing I have added is an 034 dogbone insert.
Now the vibrations are all gone, and the mount keeps that tightness when the accelerator gets a work out.
I've also installed an 034 adjustable rear sway bar (for the Mk7 Golf) and the change this has made to the car is unreal. Now it handles like a real sports car. Highly recommended!
Overall, I'm now completely happy with the Tig and the work I've had done to it. And the wife is happy with it too.
The only thing left is the muffler, but that's a project for next year.
Great post mate. Appreciate it.
Tbh I 10000% agree with what you have said.
If you go back a while ago i think in this same thread, or the other tuning one, to when I trialled the bluefin tune just stage 1, I actually say the exact same thing. I was gobsmacked at the night and day difference and said the same thing as you, that of all the mods I’ve done to cars, this is the most pronounced difference I have ever felt! When I floored it off the line with the blue fin the traction light would come on!
The way the car is now, has a good chunk of torque in the middle and it feels incredibly rapid, but I really need to drive it a bit more to see if it sucks for real or I was expecting too much. It feels great but tbh given the DP, the turbo and change to high flow panel filter and inlet pipe, I thought it would be a little more drastic.
It’s done on a hub dyno and my car only has 18s... so not 100% sure with it at the moment.

Thank you, I thought I’d lost the reply! The last week for some reason I keep losing the post with an error message.
Yeh it’s funny you say that regarding expectation and “real world” Dyno figures, which essentially are just numbers and as I said previous, dynos were put on this earth to disappoint lol. Fantastic tool for fine tuning and testing but the real test is always on the black strip in my view and the experience that goes with driving it. After all the whole reason we mod is to get the adrenaline going, the smarts behind optimisation and to dust off unsuspecting Goliath’s at the lights. At least, that’s where I get the most buzz haha.
Maybe there is some fine tuning to be done with your car, like you say it’s early days and I don’t think your asking too much by wanting to be startled by your mods. INASNT wrote a great post about his car and recent mods he had done, with traction control light coming on in 1st 2nd and 3rd and needing to control the natural lead foot most of us carry around, that is an awesome outcome after shelling out hard earned coin for more ponies! We all know that scintillating feeling of success, although it costs a lot of money you can’t really put a dollar figure on that!
Expectation always has the potential to dampen the spirits. I’d hate to think of how many times we got slapped back to reality after working our butts off on the car, heading to the ‘Creek for a test and tune or street meet only to find we had lost a few tenths or a few hundred rpm or top end. Always came back to expectation.
Anyways, hope you don’t feel too disheartened by the numbers, especially if the car is substantially quicker than before the power up.
It’s a funny game at times, all sorts of curve balls come at you. Let’s face it, if you got a turn key package that you wanted, and all the R and D was done behind the roller doors of a workshop, the first thing you would want to do is modify it! 😂
Keep us in the loop how it all goes. 👍
Now that I am a bit older in the tooth, its more about how much of a smile the car puts on your face when you drive it that overall power..
Just knowing you have that extra power and can use it as needed is a good feeling....
