    Take a seat Sharkie...

So I can take you through a APR stage 2.5 path:

    -ECU Tune $1k
    -DP $1.8k (AWD/Golf R)
-Intake panel $0.1 (Carbonio is $0.80)
-Intake hose $0.1 (ECS/Ram air etc)
    -OEM IS38 $2k ($1k second hand)

Around $5k for new hardware and about 6 hours of labour. It is possible to bolt on the stock DP on the IS38, but you will sacrifice some HP due to the stock cat and pipe restriction.

If you were able to source a second hand IS38 and use stock down pipe (you could modify this ) you should be able to get hardware costs down to $1.2k and then throw on a tune for around $1k. If you are handy with a wrench and can DIY, you’d save on the labour also.

It’s so easy to fall victim to the horsepower bug and I spent a lot of money in previous years when the STI was in its hey day. If I can get a super reliable Tig that when required can do those sort of sprints I will be more than happy. I learned in previous years that sooner or later your going to compromise daily driving, considering most of the time the car will be in comfort mode cruising and then turn into Hyde when I want it to will be awesome.

Based on what I have read your car drives like it should but you have the power there when you need it. If that’s the case then definitely it’s the cars pathway.

In 3-4 years I will track down a good 2nd hand RS3 and get the stage 1 APR flash tune and airbox, I have a few mates that have done this and the car is staggering.
    Thanks for your help 👍
Agree with you that an RS3 FL is the way to go for a bang for bucks beast. A stage 1 e85 tune takes it to the next level of craziness. From a random fact perspective the RS3 also runs a BOSCH MQB DQ500MQB gear box like the MK2 Tiguan, so there is some performance pedigree that is also shared with the RS3.

The original Frankenmumster also had a fully built motor to allow higher levels of boost. I think they forgot to tell the guys at Hot Tuner that fact so that it didn't get bumped up into the >$75k category...

Should have just ordered the personal flasher without the tune and then paid for the tune separately. Would have been harder for them to charge you GST on the file...

    TVS Tune Update

So I unboxed the Personal Flashing device last night and included was a nice black case with a zip, kinda like a Bose QC35 headphones case. In the case was a proprietary OBD module, a USB cable and instructions. I followed the instructions and downloaded the TVS app to my laptop installed the drivers, connected the USB cable to the laptop and the other end to the Personal Flashing Module and then hooked it to the OBD port of the Tig.

It was able to read my ECU and extract the information it needed for TVS regarding the specific DQ500MQB Bosch model which is 0DL300012G and some other car specific information.

I have sent the data log/read to TVS who are currently producing the stage 2 + TVS tune and will send me a file soon.

    Stayed “tuned” (pun intended...)

Interested to hear how it goes. Looking from their website it appears they should know what they're doing : DQ500 - TVS engineering

Yeap, pretty good reviews online, check out their Facebook page for their latest projects.
They are well regarded DSG experts and have done a number of DQ500 swaps, custom DSG tunes and race clutches for high powered vehicles.

I received the TCU stage 2 + file overnight, I will install next week when I’ve got some time off during the Christmas break.

I’m currently looking at turbo options... IS38, TTE470, TTE525, snail turbo, high flow IS20???

I really don’t want to kill the daily drive-ability of the car but really wondering if there’s something a bit better than a stock standard IS38.
