Exhaust leak maybe? Have a look under the car and see if you can see any soot marks anywhere along the exhaust that might show you if there is a leak and if so where it is.

    Thanks NZ

I had a crawl under the car tonight and pretty much spotless under there.
A really really small bit of soot on the clamp near the resonator, but nothing I would think that is making the noise.

The noise seems to be getting louder which normally would be OK for an exhaust, but the tone of it is real raspy/tinny...annoying and only under minor application of the accelerator.

Do you get any vibration noise from the drivetrain when you load up the accelerator when cruising in high gears and low revs (<2,000-2,500)?

    Hey everyone

Haven't had a chance to install R exhaust on my Tig, been sitting in the workshop but now that I have some time thought I would ask if you guys know any shops in Melbourne that would do a good job and charge reasonable price for it. Preferably around CBD or Doncaster way.

Hey guys I've been a long time reader of this thread and first time poster.

I bit the bullet and got my hands on an MK7R exhaust and was hoping for some assistance.

It seems as though everyone has their own way to have this fitted and I was unable to find out what is the best way without getting the droning effect that I've heard mentioned in this thread.

    I'm thinking of:
    1. Keeping the resonator
    2. Removing the trim (exhaust cover thing)
    3. Extending the tips to poke out the back

Will the valves be open or closed by default or can you set it up initially before installation?

Finally, does anyone know of a garage in Sydney that they'd recommend me to visit and get the work done from?

    Cheers

Seems there is some debate on whether valves are open or closed. I got a MK7 and they were closed by default. I recall some mentioning they were open by default on the 7.5 muffler?

Easiest is to just stick something (a bit of hose maybe?) in the pipe and see if it gets obstructed or not

You can easily play with the valves with the exhaust on the car. There's enough room to stick your hand under and manually open/close them.

Got mine done at Kirrawee Mufflers and have no complaints

    Thanks a lot daz32!

Appreciate your input. Might give Kirrawee muffler a buzz when I'm free since they've done it already and the pricing didn't seem to bad based on your post earlier on in this thread.

Ended up getting this done today at Kirrawee Mufflers. The job took approx 3.5hrs which included time for them to remove the plastic trim.
The set up I went for is connecting the Golf R muffler to the stock pipe (with res). The tail pipes were extended and poke through the rear of the car. The valves by default were closed. There's no droning with this set up.

    - Driving in D makes no difference
    - Driving in S only makes the exhaust sound subtly a bit deeper and blips a bit on the up shifts

Overall, the difference isn't that noticeable. Might look at getting rid of the resonator or opening up those valves at a later date.

This video will give you a very good idea if you remove the resonator.

    Tiguan Exhaust

Hi All, this is a bit of a shameless plug (sorry)... I’m getting a company car, so have just removed the custom Golf R Exhaust from my Tiguan and selling if anyone is interested (located Gold Coast, QLD)... Cheers! Tiguan Exhaust
