Been speaking to a guy that wraps cars and he suggested spraying the plastic parts with glue before applying the wrap to get it to stick. Otherwise I’d have to prime and sand back so may as well paint.

Yeah I wouldn’t spray them with glue. That’s just madness. Imagine trying to get it off. Yuck lol. My honest opinion would be to pop them off and just paint them. There not hard to take off. There all just clipped. Maybe get a quote. It would only be expensive if you wanted to smooth them out. That would involve priming them blocking sanding and maybe re prime and than prep and paint. I just looked on that site all up 314 so yeah done. I’ll pay for those tomoz. And see how long they take.

The guy that does the wraps said it's something they sometimes do particularly on plastics where the wrap doesn't stick so well. The glue they use is a spray on adhesive and can be cleaned up using alcohol but would mean extra work if/when taking it off.

I think I would want to get it flat before painting otherwise you'll just end up with orange peel effect and may as well just have plasti-dipped it.

    Congrats on the springs.

Which parts exactly do you want to get wrapped? I got all my chrome trim wrapped with no issues.

I wanted to wrap the plastic wheel arches, because of the type of plastic it is the wrap would not stick, even if you were to paint it you would need to use a etching primer first.

Are you sure it’s the actual chassis that’s rusted and not a rust mark from the top of the cap of the strut tower which would sit hard against that chassis bit? I thought the entire chassis were electroplate coated or something and good for no rust for years.

All the lower grey unpainted plastics (lower door trims, arch trims, lower grill and bumper insert).

Yes and understand that to wrap it I would need to prepare it similar to if I was going to paint... which then means I probably just should paint them. However wrapping is something that I can do DIY as opposed to painting which would need to be done professionally in a paint shop.

I'm not 100% certain that it's chassis. What's the top cap made out of? Either way there shouldn't be rust in that location.

I picked up a 17" Tulsa wheel and tyre today (Comfortline spec) and going to use this as a full-size spare. I've been tossing up what to to and I think this is the best compromise as it'll still almost fit under the boot floor. The other more expensive alternative was to go for the Kapstadt accessory rim from VW and put a matching 235/45R20 tyre on it but then the boot floor would not have fitted.

I think given that I may never need to use the spare this is a reasonable compromise. At least now when I'm travelling in the country I'll have a full-size spare rather than a dodgy space saver.

Wheel installed in the wheel well. Boot floor sits marginally higher at the top setting.

I may look at modifying the boot floor when I have a bit more time to get a more flush fit.

Confirmed 100% that the Foliatec Caliper Paint that is in the country is not saleable and going in the bin

Time for plan B (and or C).

Checkout this product I came across on a Volvo forum. I never got around to using it but it was certainly very popular as a solution to fixing the horrible Volvo 850 grey bumpers in the USA
