    No, it was quick. I only took the car for a test drive for the first time last week! Finance was easy as it is through the same finance company as the Tiguan and with the trade in price they gave me it wasn’t much at all to change.

    No, didn’t have to change back to the OEM exhaust which was a bonus as I would have had to spend a bit to do that. The dealer just asked me to give them the OEM exhaust so they can put it back on if they want to.

    Wow, that's a pretty understanding dealer.
    I would have thought they would want it returned to stock.

    That Cupra Ateca will be even better with a stage 1 tune on it.

    What gearbox does it run?

    Yes, will have to update that when I’m next on my PC.

    Good question, I hadn’t looked into what gearbox, I just assumed it was the same as the Tiguan as it just stated 7 Speed DSG, however it seems that I am wrong. By the looks of it from what I can find on the web it seems to be running the DQ381 which is the same as what’s in the Mk7.5 Golf R although I couldn’t find anything exactly confirming this. Do you know if it is possible to find out what it is using OBD11?

    I definitely find it much smoother and quieter with it’s gear changes, I always found the DQ500 in the Tig a bit noisy, faint clunking sounds when driving slowly especially when lifting on and off the gas. Changing into 2nd most of the times wasn’t that smooth either if in manual mode.

    So my guess is it's the DQ381 that you've got which is why you've got smoother shifting. Just keep that in mind before planning any stage 3 turbo swaps

    Yes the DQ500 is a bit "clunky" but I think that's partly due to it being built heavy duty so I don't mind the odd clunk in 1-2 gear change for the added peace of mind that I don't have a fragile transmission.

    I think the DQ381 is a good option especially if you're not planning on doing towing. On that note do you know what the towing capacity is? This may give you a bit more of an idea that it's designed for passenger use only and nothing much more than putting a bike rack on the back (not that this is a problem - probably only a consideration for 5-10% of owners/potential owners).

    In a way I'm glad to read this as my experience is similar and I was wondering if that was just my DSG. Leaves me a little more reassured now.


    BTW, looks like Australia has been reclassified from "hot and dusty" climate area to a "moderately hot country", meaning we may get higher performance cars/tunes form the VW stable - barring petrol quality issues.

    Thanks, that answers that question.

    It is rated for 750kg unbraked and 2000kg braked so slightly lower than the 2500kg rating for the Tiguan. You can get the swing down towbar for this but wasn’t on the car I got and wasn’t planning on waiting for one to be built as there is apparently a big delay due to them selling out. Personally I don’t see this as the type of car you would use for towing anything and I’d hate to see how they would fit and aftermarket towbar with that rear bumper. My wife has a manual diesel 7 seater with a towbar so I just use that for any towing needed.

    Know what you mean, I wasn’t sure if it was just mine or like it across the range. Was tempted to go test drive another Tiguan just to see.

    Think the issue might be more with the Petrol Particulate Filter the CUPRA has not liking the level of sulphur in your fuel, unless the can do it without the filter for your market?
