Special order MY19.5 or wait for MY20?

    Hello all,
I am in the process of looking at and buying a new Tiguan Allspace Highline with all 3 options.
Apparently the specs and colour I want aren’t available in the country and need to be special ordered/built and about a 5 month wait.
I am not in any major rush for the vehicle, but a 5 month wait kinda makes me think is a MY20 going to come out soon and should I wait for that or just stick with the MY19.5?
Been trying to see if there is any talk on a facelift but havn’t seen much at the moment. A 5 seat option like in the states would be great (as I mainly want the extra boot space, the 3rd row will never get used).
Anyone got any inside info? Haha!
    Thanks all,
    Mike

The Allspace has only been out for 12 months so can’t imagine a facelift in the next 12 months at least.
And when they do facelift the SWB (which has been out a fair bit longer), the Allspace may still lag with an update seeing it’s built from a different factory

Id wait a few months though for a MY 2020 if you are in no rush.

If you’re special ordering now it will be a MY20 spec as that’s what the factory will be building now.

If you can wait 5 months for the right car then order the one you want. MY20 usually starts hitting showroom in September.

you should wait for the MY21, though the MY22 could be even better, actually now that I think about it, the MY23 should be amazing.

At this time of year you should really get the new MY spec unless you can get an amazing deal on current stock (which the dealers will be keen to clear in the next month or so).

Is there any way of knowing that my order will be MY20 or should I ask when ordering? Would also be ordering not knowing what changes (good or bad) will be included. Although the chance of wireless car play is a good change.

I’m wanting the silk blue. Don’t see many around

I did hear that MY24 might be able to fly so think I’ll wait for that

Dealers havnt thrown anything fantastic my way with pricing. Probably because they know it will have to be ordered although 1 dealer said can’t get that colour, wanted me to compromise on what was in stock and still only giving me a grand off retail lol. Would have thought EOFY would have made them want to get rid of cars.

Get it specified in your contract. It'll be almost guaranteed to be MY20 anyway if it's a factory order.

Usually they add options/features not delete them. Though there was one time when they went from 2 rear USB ports to 1 so it's always good to know. By this stage the sales manager will usually have a listing of all the MY(20) changes as they will have to know about this when selecting/ordering new stock. Speak to the sales manager and get them to run through the changes for MY20 (and then let us know!)

This is one thing that does change on MY. There's often 1 colour added and one dropped off (usually the least popular).

Yeah you may have trouble negotiating a great price on an order as most dealers will be trying to shift cars before end of FY at the moment. You may have more success going through a broker on something like this.

Ask and get it in writing (email, contract, letter etc). I was straight out told my order would have the original AID and that the dealer knew nothing about a new AID. When it arrived, it was no surprise that it had the new AID. It didn't bother me either way, both generations looked and performed well.

If you are unwilling to compromise on color/spec (and I totally get this is important to some and less to others) then take your time and shop - you can pretty much pick and play any dealer you like and set your price. Keep the broker margin for yourself.

Clearly the focus now is on EOFY figures so they'll be trying to push whatever stock they can on to you.
