Snow Chains for Tiguan R-Line 255/40R20

I have a 2020 Tiguan R-Line that came with stock 255/40R20 tyres. Does anyone know if you can put on snow chains to these?

I asked VW Australia who responded, “We sought assistance with our technical team, and they said that only tyres size 215/65R17 are allowed with snow chains”.

That is the VW standard answer out of the handbook where everyone in Europe has a set of winter tyres if they need to drive in the snow. Where are you ? Roof Carrier Systems in Melbourne should be able to find a chain to fit ... at least at the rear where you will have more clearance.

Seems there is not enough clearance for the chains you have to use at some ski fields Has been asked before so do a search and there are plenty of answers. Seems the only type of chains that might fit are banned at most places.

I was hoping to hire them for a trip to the snow.

Hoys would not fit them because it isnt recommended by VW. I have found other companies that might fit them but am concerned why it isnt recommended by VW - will it damage the car?

As said Clearance and legality is the problem. Did you not read my post

No good hiring a set that skifield wont let you use Find out what they say you can use then find out if they fit. At the cost of 20 in mags at about $1000 each I would buy or borrow a set of 18s for the trip.

Here you go all the info in one place

No going to the snow in a 162TSI :(

My bad, I was writing up my post as you posted.

Thank you for that link. Good information.

It all sounds too hard and that catching a bus might be easier!

If you put snow chains on, you go against VW official recommendations and void warranty. The R-Line R20 tyres are big and have no clearance to fit the Hotham required diamond chains to the front.
