Roof rack - spare keys

Hi
Yes, done a stupid thing. Got a brand new Tiguan Adventure a year ago. Finally about to use the roof racks. Have lost the keys, well, actually, I am sure they are somewhere so very safe, that I can't find recall ...

Rang VW, who said 'no one has ever asked how to get spare keys before'. WHAT?? how is that even possible..

I can apparently get new barrels for $60, but some question about whether it is even possible to put them in because the roof racks are locked - but the VW guy doesn't know.. (If HE doesn't who the hell does?)

so.. less than helpful...

Suggested getting the serial number off the barrel and going to locksmith.. good idea.. But Vw roof racks have black matt lock, NO serial number I can see.

Can anyone give me wise advise? Apart from 'don't lose the keys'. THAT I know.. kicking myself..

Go see a decent sized Thule rack dealer. Thule make the VW racks and there arent a huge number of key patterns.

and once you get it sorted, leave the keys (and fitting tools) in a bag in the boot. If they’re with the car, you know where they are.

I always keep a copy of the roof rack key on the keyring with the key fob
They are usually much smaller keys so don't really get in the way
