Replacing Fog Lights - Pure White Light

Hi Guys,

I have a fully loaded Tiguan R Line.

I'm a little bit disappointed that the front fog lights have a yellow tinge to them, in my opinion it makes the car look cheap.

Looking at replacing them with a pure white light to match the main headlights.

Has anyone else done this? I can't seem to find the globe specifications in the manual. Also, are there any error codes that get reported if I replace them?

I am also considering doing this. Apparently the yellowish colour helps to cut through the fog a bit better but that is a rarity where I live. I believe the unit is called an H8 (with right angle connector). See the attached from Ali Express. I believe these are common to most recent VAG vehicles, but again concerned about the issue with errors. I understand from YouTube vids that it is a simple task to change albeit a bit of a squeeze to access from inside the fender lining. If you browse Ali Ex you will find other sellers providing some info and claiming to be "error free"
I see there are also full LED interior light kits specifically for the new Tigs. I would be interested also to hear from wiser folks.

More so others can see you better, notice on a foggy day you generally notice the cars with warmer tungsten headlights than once with HID/LED headlights? This is because during the day, fog actually appears quite white and projecting white lights through a white fog makes it harder for others to see/notice you.

From a driver's perspective any light frequency will just behave the same in terms of "penetration" as he wavelength is much smaller than the fog particles themselves.

Hi All, If you use white lights or even normal incandescent bulbs in fog the light dazzles you the driver especially on high beam, That is why most fog lights are yellow. I used to live in very fog prone areas in Tasmania so speak from experience.

Assuming the fog light in the current Tiguan is a traditional filament bulb and not some new age LED or similar, and if it is indeed a H8 type bulb, then something like this is what you will want to get a nice white light and not have to worry about error codes.

Before buying anything, i would suggest you remove one of the bulbs and check that it is infact a H8 style bulb as there are many different shapes and sizes of bulbs.

I have replaced the whole front section with LED bulbs in my Tiguan.
My advice? Forget Aliexpress and other cheap sites when you want to put LED bulbs in your car. I bought a similar LED bulb you had on your left picture and the LED part of the bulb broke off and it fell into the fog light housing. It took me a very patient 40 minutes to get it out. Cheap crap and it gives an error message.

I use Philips Ultinon H7 LED in low beam and KONIK H8/H11 LED bulbs in my fog lights. Also have LED bulbs in high beam and in my DRL and front indicators.

Blingworks is highly recommended as they sell quality and tested bulbs. Don't buy cheap stuff.

Do you or anyone have instructions on how to remove the foglight bulb from a 2017+ R-Line? Pulling back the fender well on mine means removing the flares. Thanks!

The optimum light output is reached about 4000-4500k if you go higher it appears brighter and bluer but in fact does NOT give more light

Are they the fog lights or daytime running lights? If fog lights, then you only use them in fog legally when no other cars are around you, so why do you if it “looks” cheap?
