Rear window Sun shades for Tiguan

    Hi all,

I will be receiving my car soon and already have a long road trip organised from Melbourne to Queensland in December. One thing I will probably need is sun shades for the rear windows as I have 2 young children who will be in the back seats.

Has anyone purchased these for their car?

I found 2 options so far:

    Non OEM
Volkswagen 2016-2017 Tiguan Magnetic Rear Side Car Window Sun Blind Shade Screen | eBay

    and OEM
GENUINE VOLKSWAGEN TIGUAN REAR WINDOW SUNSHADES SUN BLIND SET SUN PROTECTION | eBay

Anyone had any experience with these? OEM ones certainly seem pretty expensive.

I got the genuine VW ones for the same reason. Love them.
I didn’t want to tint, but they keep the sun off the kids and give the car a tinted look.
I can leave the windows open to ventilate when parked and they keep out the bugs nicely.
Visibility is reduced, but not so as to cause a problem looking over my shoulder at night to change lanes or reverse.

BTW, I didn’t look at your links... couldn’t get them to work for some reason.

Did they have to drill into your trims to affix them? Are you able to put a couple pics up?

The dealer fitted it, but they use clips in the trim - no drilling.
    Instructions attached.

A bit of a grey day, but the rear windows are quite dark and shaded.

Your links seem to go to the generic ebay home page, but I believe the non-OEM link is the one I have purchased from ebay recently from eppingtrader. I ended up paying $130 for the two rear window shades, because the 3rd row window shades really don't fit well (they gave me a $50 refund because of this). The 2nd row window shades (large windows in the back seat) fit ok but not perfect. They do the job well and like the OEM version, no drilling whatsoever into the trim. It comes with a couple of plastic clips that you can stick onto the trim, but I didn't bother with it as the edges were magnetic and just kind of sit along the windows. You can wind down the windows and let air through also but still have the shade there for sun protection.

Overall, I'm pretty happy with them for the price. I looked into buying the OEM sun blinds for the rear sunshades, but I was quoted well over $300.

Bundled into the vehicle price so no idea. Probably $50 cost to dealer and $600 to me 😂

I found these on eBay...$323+$15 shipping.

Thanks for the feedback, yes the those are the non OEM ones I was looking at from Epping trader. Shame the fit wasn’t very good in the third row. I find it hard to spend $340 on the OEM ones though.

    I agree they are not cheap. My rationale for buying genuine VW was;
    1. The cost wasn’t much in the scheme of things when buying a new car, and offset over the next 3-5 years
    2. Having reliable quality and fit
    3. Offset against the cost of tinting
    4. Being removable when not needed
    5. Easily replaced when tired/worn

I’m very happy with my purchase. I do feel they are about twice the price they should be. But that is genuine parts price gouging at its best.

I didn't look into these as i thought the Tiguans came standard with "privacy glass" is that not the case?

I got the dealer to include tinting in the price but i'm wondering if i should have gone for these instead?.
