Hi guys,

I would like to get have the following done on my 2018 Tiguan Allspace:

CTS Intake (or similar)
CTS Downpipe and HI flow Cat (or similar)
Redirected BOV
ECU & DSG tune

I've heard good things (through O/S mates) and read about the JB4 plug & play from this forum, which I like the idea off. Especially for warranties as I still have 3 years left and it is also my first new car.What mod's won't void my warranty or all of the above will anyway?

I'm a little stuck in deciding whether stage 1 just a tune or stage 2 (as above) or 3 (bigger turbo and cooler)? I'm more inclined to go stage 2 or 3 tbh. If I had the full exhaust setup as well would it need to custom lengthened as the Allspace is longer and it'll look so much nicer coming through the fake crappy blanks?

I'm looking getting these done in the next few weeks. Does anyone have any success or regrets with any tuners in Melbourne?

Those mods will void your warranty, even just a stage 1 tune.
The JB4 won't as it's a plug and play unit.

If you do decide to get a tune (stage 1 or 2), I recommend Etuners.
I've used them here in Sydney on my previous car.

Hardware changes you mention will void all the drivetrain (engine, gearbox, axles, haldex, hubs/bearings, brakes, most suspension components)

The plug in module, I can’t say. Depends if vw can data trace anything that proves it was installed and for how long?

Thanks for your responses guys. Sounds like they "go to town" in regards to warranties etc.

If I done all the above apart from the DSG tuning then that'll mean only engine not covered - Correct?

Engine and drivetrain warranty will (potentially) be affected.

My thoughts on this are that you've already got 30,000km on the clock and if you were going to have a manufacturing fault it would have shown up by now. If you look at the number of problems/failures with 162TSI engine/drivetrain on here it's very, very small (almost zero).

I'm not saying to do it - it's a risk that each individual has to take themselves. Some people choose to do it and others wait until after warranty. My thoughts on the warranty thing is that if you wait until after warranty expires to tune it then if you break it you're still up for the cost of repairs. So if you're going to tune it anyway then there's actually no benefit in waiting (other than to be sure there is no factory issues).

The thing you're sacrificing is a couple of years of warranty (free repairs if anything fails) vs. putting a smile on your face every time you drive your car.

Actually you'll still have warranty on most items - just not your engine/transmission.

That's what I was thinking also....
Ive' already done nearly 30000km and if I had major issues it would've already happened. I was more concerned about the DSG issues that the 6 speed or older versions had but I haven't seen (touches wood) such issues to date so must be ok. To be honest the only issue I had was the centre mirror/camera/sensors had to be re-aligned from date of collection.
The other thing of concern, that if I waited after warranty the period car might be more at risk of failing due too higher mileage (roughly 60-80000kms) and then be faced with huge repair bills.

Like I said earlier, I love the car, it looks mean from the front, handles pretty well (in normal mode), comfortable and has some nice touches plus the extra space in the boot for the pram etc. Now I need some extra fun factor to complete the package

That was the dry clutch versions that suffered issues.
You've got the DQ500 DSG in the Allspace if you have the 162TSI engine, and that's a wet clutch. They're fairly bullet proof.

That's not high mileage, not for these motors. I had my R36 tuned at about 75K kms. Etuners ran it on a dyno first to get an idea of what shape it was in before applying their stage 1 tune. They started asking me what sort of fuel I used (BP 98 RON), how long had I had the car (since new), what was the service history (every 12 months), etc because they were seeing it really under performing and dropping compression.
Turned out it was bad fuel from the service station I visited on the way there. A bit of fuel additive sorted it out, and they applied their tune, and I was a happy customer.

I will be taking my Tiguan back there once I start getting all my parts for a much needed overhaul.

Oh, and your other comment about cooling down the turbo, it isn't necessary, unless you've been hard at the track.
If it's just some spirited driving then just drive normally for a good 10 mins or more afterwards before reaching your destination. Leave the car in D so you're not over revving the engine.

Engine is a key component to the driveline.

More overall power, rev increase, torque limits removed certain gears, different power/torque curves, etc COULD contribute to premature failure of any component within(maybe beyond) the list I mentioned earlier.
Unlikely with normal driving (but then, why do it...), but possible- and therefore an easy ‘out’ for any manufacturer in a warranty claim.

Thanks for this valuable info Simonr23, will keep it all in mind. It's my daily car and I have pushed the car on more then a few occasions since the safe period of running it in from new. I always check fulid levels weekly and listen out for rattles etc and 30000kms on it's like new. Always wait for turbo to cool too, I don't turn engine off

I realised I needed extra power when a little Ford RS came along and although I was still with it, it'll been nice to kiss it good-bye! It was going fine until he turned flicked his anti-lag on and it was all over!!!

The DSG in the Tiguan is the high torque 7 speed DQ500. It's the same gearbox that is in the gen1 Tiguan since mid 2010. I'd be able to count on 1 hand the number of posts about problems with this transmission. There were 1 or 2 Transporters with high km (150,000) that had issues but these cars also probably had a hard life.

It's a stronger gearbox than the 6 speed in the GTI/R models.
