Rain sensing wipers problem

My front wipers haven't been coming on automatically - despite having the stalk set to the appropriate position. The wiper on the rear windscreen has been activating, but not the front.

I thought maybe some wax may be on the sensor so gave the windscreen a thorough clean with some glass cleaner but no joy. The front wipers are also shuddering when used manually.

Anyone got any thoughts or experienced similar? Or is it back to the dealer for me?

Head back to the dealer. I've had two VWs with rain sensing wipers and never had issues - sounds like there's something going on with yours.
