Paint matching Tiguan wheel arch trims

    Hello all,

First post here. Wondering if anyone out there has decided to get rid of that black plastic trim look around the wheel arches and paint match it to the rest of their Tiguan body?

I am seriously considering this. I think it would give it an overall nice touch and add to the premium look of the Tiggy.

Also, I'm more referring to the R-line body, as I think they have the thinner wheel trim.

Would love to see pictures of anyone who has done it to theirs!

I don’t think anyone on this forum has done it yet, seems to be too difficult/expensive for anyone to try. There have been a few pictures I’ve seen on the Wheels page of ones done overseas and to me it reminds me of a Captiva especially when it’s white.

Yes there's a few done overseas. I looked at getting all my lower body mouldings (and wheel arches) painted, however it was pretty pricey and a pain that they all came with textured finish which means you really need to fill and sand them first to get a good finish on the paint (otherwise it just looks like orange peel).

There's a few others that have gone for gloss black instead of body coloured and this works too:

Plus body coloured in blue... Well this one just oozes class:

There is no doubt the finish is anything but cheap looking if you make the effort but these are also almost all bagged show cars where the cost of some of these wheels or other custom touches will make the arch paint feel like petty cash.

Thanks all for the pics and comments! I found a few on the internet too, and all of the Tiggy's seemed to be slammed and with really 'out there' wheels. Definitely not the look I'm going for. Just wanting to make some OEM+ tweaks.

You see all the higher premium SUVs (X5s, Q5s etc) with colour matched arch trims straight out of factory, just wanting to achieve that look.

Thanks Tigger73. May I ask which shops you inquired in Sydney? I'm looking to call around too, and def. would want them to sand down and remove any orange peel effect!

I was actually more concerned about paint matching, as an Oryx Pearl White Tiggy is on the way. Didn't think the execution of the paint job would be also something to look out for!

I'm in Adelaide so can't really comment/suggest any paint shops in Sydney. I spoke to one shop and they were trying to talk me out of the job as they said it was quite tricky. The wheel arch trims are quite strong on the car but off are big and floppy. Problem is when they are painted they can easily crack (off the car) if they flex too much.
