Count me as a prospect.
A number of overseas sites seem to be generally referencing it as Mk2 but then again don't always believe what you read on the internet.
Whatever it's called, with the upcoming release of the next generation Tiguan, Tigger73 has suggested that it's time for a new section, a great idea all around.
Based on the MQB platform and bringing it into line with lots of other models the second Gen Tiguan replaces the nearly 10 year old current model. I know a few of you are already looking at ordering this new beast and look forward to seeing it hit the ground in Australia (and help you through the pain of the long wait between now and then).

I'll be calling it Mk2 for simplicity sake because that is what is seems to be being called elsewhere, but isn't it technically a Mk3? There was the original Tiguan, the face lifted (current) model, and now this one - the 3rd in the series. Every new Golf, new platform or not, gets an incremented number. Can't see why the Tiguan would be any different?

Well according to the VW website it's the "New Tiguan".
I guess we'll have the gen 1, gen 1 facelift and now gen2.
Mechanically the 2011 facelift was identical to the launch vehicle in 2008 so it wasn't quite like Golfs where there was a body/engine change between Mk1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6 & 7.

So are they all the same motor in different states of tune?
Can I do a Stage 1 upgrade to 197kW with any of them?

The 110TSI is a 1.4 litre turbo petrol
The 132TSI and 162TSI are both 2.0 litre turbo petrol in different states of tune (same engine as Golf GTI).
The 110TDI and 140TDI are a 2.0 litre turbo diesel in different states of tune (though I believe there may be some mechanical differences between these 2 engines).
I'm not sure what is available for the 110TSI in terms of tuning. There's only so much you can get out of a small capacity engine with small turbo. Much better off to start with the 132TSI if you want to make a sleeper Tig.

For those in the know.. how does the new Tiguan compare with the Passat Wagon for interior cabin space? The wife is very keen on an SUV but the current Tiguan is tiny, so the new one would need to be at least as big as the Passat Wagon for it to suit us.
I'm struggling to find details anywhere online. Appreciate the forum's thoughts.
TIA.
