My first brand new car had 12km on it.
Golf R had 7km on it when I collected it.
Arteon had 37km on it when I picked it up.

Typically I would want less than 50km on it for brand-brand new. I mean, even 50km is a lot more than just factory -> holding yard -> boat -> on/off transport truck -> moving around the yard. 50km... someone's driven it home or used it for a lunch run.

50-100km, to me...that's borderline demo car. Someone has definitely driven it somewhere.

    100km+ that's ex-demo for me.

    1000km+ I'd call second hand.

From memory, mine had about 45km on it when I picked it up from the dealer.

I’d honestly be surprised if a dealer agreed to such a condition on the contract. They cannot control the number of kays on the odo before the vehicle hits their yard.
    Cheers

Agree. I don't think any dealer would agree...

Yes but they would know how many km would typically be on the cars they receive.

If it is important to you that your “brand new” car has not been used as a demo for test drives then stipulating max km in the contract is probably the easiest way of enforcing it.

If you’re paying for a brand new car then that’s what you should be getting.

A lot of dealers will run cars around on flatbed trucks for pre-delivery detailing / tinting / etc just to keep the km off the car. It’s also less risk than having them on the road and have the car damaged in an accident prior to delivery.

They did with me but I'd say they agreed as they sold me a car from a local warehouse. They would have a database of how many KMs of their locally stored new cars. Not sure if one has to be ordered from the factory.

I think I had 36km in the contract (dealer put it in himself when I mentioned I didn't want a car that's been driven for a test drive by someone else).

Mine had about 70km when I first saw it, but they did drive it about 50km to deliver it to me at my office. So that and the KM to drive it to me personally, it added up to be in the 30km's when I paid for it, which met the contracts obligations.

I also know mine came from a warehouse in Victoria Park and was delivered to Mandurah WA. They must have done that on a flatbed or by the time the car got to my office in Fremantle it would have had well over 100km and then some.

13.8km here - no clause put in contract.

    Thanks for everyone's feedback

Just to be safe, I have added a max km caveat to the contract
