The car itself is gorgeous. The R-Line, in white, looks fantastic. The interior feels very special with the trick dash and all of the other bells and whistles. Progressive steering is fantastic, the car felt quiet and refined with the exception of the diesel rattle. Everything but the engine was spot on.
...It sounded positively truck like, even on the road. I'd like to see it on a dyno. I seriously doubt the claimed power and torque figures.
To confirm my thoughts, we took a 132TSI for a spin. From the moment we started the engine it felt a lot more refined. The performance was markedly better. It was quieter, smoother, had a greater torque range and was generally a lot more enjoyable than the 140TDI.
It's a shame. The 140TDI R-Line at Sutherland today was, up until we drove it, exactly what we wanted. R-Line, Driver Assistance Pack and no sunroof. We probably would have driven it home today. Once we drove it though there was no way. We'll be ordering a 162TSI very shortly and join the long list.
I actually had posted something similar but deleted it as I didn't want to put off potential any TDI owners. The car certainly had its merits, and it was still fun to drive but for me the second I jumped in the 132TSI, the performance difference was massive. Despite factory claims of the diesel doing 0 to 100 in 7.9 seconds and the petrol 132TSI doing 0 to 100 in 7.7 seconds I would suggest that in actual fact the difference would be at least one second or more - which if you know a little bit about cars you would understand that is quite a lot.
It's the first diesel I've driven - I was expecting a little weapon and it was fun, and importantly all the other things like refinement and excellent interior finish and style were certainly there.
I just couldn't get the surge of the 132TSI off my mind so I ordered the 162TSI.
