-The radio shows the song and artist of the current track being broadcast. I didn't notice this before, and thought it was a DAB feature (apparently we don't get DAB), so I was happy to see that).

Yeah, the overseas models get DAB, but we don't here. There's been a lot of discussion about the Discover Media/Discover Pro head units on other forums where people are complaining about the lack of DAB for the Australian market. In any case, the detailed brochure doesn't mention DAB or DAB+.

Great write-up.

A few points based on the week or so I've had my 132 Comfortline with both options:
- I found the stop/start quite keen too. Typically though, it would cutoff when there was a car in front, but usually not when there was none. Initially I would keep switching it off at start of each journey (via top-left button on transmission panel) but after a while, just adjusted my driving style and leave it on most of the time now.
- I found the radio underwhelming initially too, but turning up the treble to almost full and the bass slightly helped. However, I did find a big improvement when listening to my own collection of music via SD Card (high-bitrate mp3's)
- Radio shows current song/artist, plus next one as well and also name of the current radio program! It's not DAB but radio text or something like that. But sometimes it wasn't quite as accurate as what was currently playing.

Thanks. The car I drove didn't have DAP, so perhaps if it does, then it users the radar from the ACC to detect if there is a car in front or not. I'm sure I'll get used to it, and the one I have on order has DAP.

Thanks for the info regarding the radio, I think you're right about the radio text. I'm happy about that, my mate has a BMW which does the same and its nice when a song comes on the radio and you want to know who sings it.

Bugger!...So not only do we get the crap stereo, we don't get DAB... that's almost a deal breaker for me?

You might be able to get an OEM with DAB through eurocar upgrades, but expect to pay a lot for it. More details in this thread: Discover Pro 8" System in Australia - problems, solutions & VW dealers

I want to do some more research on the sound quality. If there was a relatively cheap way to upgrade some speakers or add a poweramp or something I'd consider it.

Would upgrading speakers and adding an amp void the car warranty?

I'm thinking about adding in a dashcam, but would like it to be professionally installed to hide all the wires. It looks like this procedure would be similar to upgrading the sound system as you need to tap into the fuse and 'open' up the car.

Regarding DSG lag:

After taking the car for a test drive a while back I too noticed this. Two things I can think of:

1) You are basically trying to move a 1.6 tonnes of the standstill using a 2.0L turbocharged engine. Even though the torque is good the RPM for max torque is at 1500, while sitting at the lights the RPM would be around 900 I presume. This delay in getting such mass moving will be noticeable. Which is why you really feel the car moving only after 2100-2200 RPM when the turbo kicks in; hence the delay.

2) The start-stop function is a little too trigger-happy. I noticed this when I was sitting at the lights and the moment it turned off is when I put my foot on the accelerator - the delay was very much noticeable. I had my foot on accelerator and nothing happened for at least 1-2 seconds. Perhaps to conserve fuel the engine begins hibernation mode between when you stop and when engine turns off due to start-stop technology?

Got a call from the dealer this morning to confirm a delay in production for the 162tsi. They are now saying May [or later]. Anyone else ordered recently (eg in the last week or so) and got a call re delivery timing?

I got an email from my dealer today and she gave me the VIN number for my 162TSI R Line and confirmed it was still on track for delivery on the 29/12.
