Struggling with a spending $60k on a Volkswagen but can't come up with an alternative that fits all my criteria.

1.Comfortable/roomy back seats for 2 teenagers, we travel a bit with Family in the country plus Summer holidays.
2.A bit of get up and go, not worried about consumption (Coming from a Calais V
3.Sporting looking as R-line, M-Sport, AMG etc, rules out a lot I guess.

I'd go 3 series wagon but the rear seats are tiny.
Q5's look so plain Jane even with S-line.
    Don't want CX-9, Kluger size.
Would tolerate a CX-5 if it had the same classy feel as the CX-9.

They really have created a bit of a niche market I reckon.

    Argh.

This is my feeling as well. Nothing I can think of matches it at the price range. Kia Sportage and Hyundai Tuscon are good alternatives but lack the refinement and when you consider resale value down the track, they can't compare.
Traded: Tornado Red MY11 Golf GTI Adidas
Missus: MY17 VW Tiguan 140TDI R-Line, DAP, Tint, White.
Missus: MY14 VW Golf R Leather, DAP, Tint, Lapiz Blue .

I'm not a Hyundai fan but feel they've come along way and I'd strongly consider a Tuscon if hey had a Sports model with a bit more grunt, I think it looks great.

Both Tuscon and Kia look good but dont have the luxury feel inside the cabin. Hyundai looks the cheapest of the two but both are well appointed.

Has there been any consideration of the Evoque as a competitior to the more premium level tiguan models?

Personally I have considered many options including the Evoque and Discovery Sport but both are much pricier 65k+

Spoke to another dealer today. Confirmed what another said with the first Highline/R-Line 140 TDi diesels coming in about 4 - 5 weeks time (middle of October).

Petrol 162TSI won't be in til March 2017 at the earliest.

Kodiaq won't be here until this time next year. It's certainly a bit bigger that the Tiguan and probably will come here with an optional 3rd row seats to make a 7 seater.

Though likely will only come with 132TSI or 140TDI as the engine options (no 162TSI).

It will be interesting to see how the Kodiaq is priced in relation to the Tiguan when it gets launched.

I had a diesel Tiguan on order when the Dieselgate scandal broke and they were suspended from sale. I got my deposit back and bought a Landrover Discovery Sport instead. It cost more - $60k versus $45k for the Tiguan, but the price difference with the new Tiguan is a lot less.

They are quite different cars, my Disco Sport is definitely not an R-Line Tiguan, as Team_v says above the Range Rover Evoque is probably the closest thing to that, and Nealo I think would meet all your criteria.

The Disco Sport meanwhile is a bigger, heavier car, and has better offroad capabilities due to the LandRover DNA, and ultimately is a better fit for me as I will be using it for outback camping in WA.

So, in the end I'm actually quite glad VW wouldn't give me the car I ordered as I really like my Disco Sport
